Paper Artsy - Grunge Paste Challenge

The latest Paper Artsy challenge is to use Grunge Paste, and over on their blog I was inspired by Liesbeth Fidder's mosaic with it's beautiful frame looking like stained glass.  This gave me the idea to make a garden path, with some old pieces of sea-worn pottery, using Grunge Paste as the grout.  I also used it with rusting powder and stencilled it on the background papers.  I added antique clay pipe stems, wire and beading, threads around the wires, hand embroidery and a tiny needle-felted birds nest.

I wanted to create the feeling of moving away from winter, and to show the subtle changes as Spring arrives, growth coming up from below, little hints of greenery, the green beads replacing the white frosty ones and of course the birds nest with little pieces of green moss and lichen.

As usual your beading and fabric work are stunning......I can't believe how you manipulate those tiny beads so effectively!! Wonderful piece and very inspiring - we are still longing for spring in my parts, and this gives me hope that one of these days it will decide to show up :-) xxx Lynn

  4. You create the most delightful assemblages! The clay pipe pieces are amazing, I used to collect old bottles and remember finding lots of clay pipe pieces when digging for antique bottles, where do you find these amazing objects!?

  9. Another fabulous piece, depicting your now spring garden, Diana - as mouthwatering as always!! Thank you so much for your lovely encouraging and loving comments while I was in hospital. I came home on Tues. and can't believe that exactly a fortnight ago I was in theatre... It's lovely to be home and my recovery is going well. It will be a long haul but we are already coping well with the stoma and I am enjoying my low fibre diet! I have loads of marvellous messages to reply to and it will be a while before I'm up to date. Please keep an eye on my blog for any further updates.

  10. Oh Diana - I don't think I could love this more! The old tin, old crackled pottery pieces, old text, and my gosh, antique clay pipe stems! I don't think I've run across those before, but I'd grab them if I did. And the lovely detail you always create, the little stems and nest. Just exquisite.
