Encaustic Houses

Messing about with wax and using up pressed flowers from last summer, while pressing more from the garden this week - a very relaxing play time!
I do love the little houses die, and I discovered I also love poking holes in wax - very satisfying!

I am linking up with WOYWW over at Julia's this week.

  4. I do love that encaustic look! It makes everything look so dreamy. I've got some beeswax and a travel iron to try it, but I've found the process a bit messy. I need a studio where O don't have to worry about dripping wax on the carpet! It's such a great idea to use pressed flowers encased in wax! Happy W8YWW! zsuzsa #28

  10. O those are gorgeous - everything you do is beautiful. I love the fact that enjoyed prickling holes so much, just don't get any ideas about voodoo dolls...... ;-D
Sorry this is a late reply, had a very sad day yesterday. We had to have Harry the Cat put to sleep as he had a huge tumour in his bowel. They sedated him to take the x ray and we thought it was kinder just to let him slip away. There is a huge Harry sized hole in our house right now :-(

  12. They are so very beautiful ,Diana .
I love the flower heads half hidden in the wax, a lovely way of saving them , and your houses are adorable, so beautiful with the postage stamps and the text stamps. And then the little holes around stamps and flowers, --it is such a lovely idea !

  16. Love your little houses, Diana! The effect of the encaustic is so delicate and subtle. I've never tried it because I always think it can't be very permanent, but perhaps I'm wrong about that...

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  18. Thank you for your visit, Diana, and for your very kind words about my art - I really appreciate them, coming from such an accomplished artist as yourelf! This latest project is something I've never attempted before, and I am pleased with how it turned out. I always think things are going to turn into a complete disaster and they don't usually, so I should learn really, haha! I've finished the little book now and I have just updated my blog with the final post on the subject. Making art to express emotions, personal history or abstract ideas is also something really new to me and it's an area I'd like to explore further.

I never worry if people don't manage to comment on the Wednesday. I don't usually manage to do all mine on the Wednesday, and I'm always pleased to receive comments at any time, so no worries!

Hope you are having a lovely weekend. It continues to be really cold and pouring with rain down here in "sunny" Devon. Ah well. Makes the plants grow, I suppose!

  19. So beautiful and delicate looking. I love your little houses die too. I have always wanted to try my hand at encaustic wax but feel a little intimidated by it.

  20. Thank you for your very kind comment about my little book, Diana - I'm so glad you like it! The Coptic binding really isn't hard to do - you just repeat the steps, one by one, and you get into a sort of rhythm with it. Give it a try! Once you've mastered the simple version, there are all sorts of fancy variations which I am now keen to try. It's definitely a fun project to do. I do think using a curved needle would help, though. I am well practised with this, having made a lot of fabric boxes in the past. They say anything you want to learn to do, you can find on Youtube. It's totally brilliant. Yes, I've certainly been through some storms with my health but things definitely seem calmer now - at least for the moment, a state of affairs I hope will continue!

    Have a great week.

  21. Fabulous post,
Sorry for the delay in commenting, laptop trouble. It's died on me and I'm in a bit of a flap.
On a positive note, my Dear Husband plans to buy a replacement for me.

  22. These are wonderful Diana! I know from experience, working with wax can be addicting, and leave it to you to come up with such an original application for it! The holes are the perfect added texture, and probably very zen to work on!
