More Studio Organizing

I have been doing some gentle sorting in my studio, continuing on from last week - just a little bit here and there in the hot weather - and believe it or not this cupboard has been completely sorted and is looking a whole lot tidier!  When I sit at my desk this is on the far side of the room to my left.
In the cupboard are treasures such as old bones, dead insects, half a crab, surplus teacups and milk jugs, antique baby shoes and many other precious bits that can't possibly be thrown away.  To the right of the cupboard you can just see my Grandma's carpet beater and some sewing machine drawers stuffed behind a pile of old suitcases (I'm a sucker for a vintage suitcase!)

At right angles to the cupboard I have three small shelves with lots more little precious bits and pieces including my collection of old teacups and saucers.  The individual shelves are generally grouped in colour order and my justification for collecting more treasures is that I often use them in photography!
As you can see I have a strong hoarding instinct but it's coupled with a strong desire to live with no clutter - it's a constant battle!!

I'm linking up with Julia over at What's On Your Work Desk Wednesday.  Why not pop over there and have a nosey around other people's work spaces!

  1. Oh Diana, what a treasure trove of delights. I do not think I would get very far sorting it out as I would be far too busy stroking it all.
What a lovely keepsake the carpet beater is. Have fun sorting it all, I wish my sorting was as delightful as yours.

  4. How beautiful! I think JUlia will be swooning when she sees all those gorgeous cups and saucers, you've put the colours together wonderfully. As much as I'm a VERY sentimental person I'm most definitely not a hoarder, I can love something for a while and then happily pass it on :-)

  8. oh more beauty! just been admiring Lynn's reorganisation too. the idea for the ALAD thing was to supposedly free us up not having to wait for things to dry to go the next layer - because you don't do it till the next day... personally I love doing a whole spread in one go, but it has been interesting (when i keep up!) 14. Gorgeous stuff Diana. I am so trying to de-clutter but it is so difficult. I take after my father and his mother who kept all kinds of things but many have been passed on to me like a tiny clay pipe which has a sweet little dog attached, a silver sixpence with enamelling on one side, a gorgeous Art Nouveau plate and pendant, to mention a few. It would be impossible to let them go. All these are so inspiring and long may it continue....Oh dear so much for the de-cluttering! Thanks for the visit to mine, have a great woyww and a happy crafty week, Angela x12x

  15. Oh Diana, what a wonderful collection. You are a girl after my own heart... I also struggle with the conflict between hoarding and being minimal! The hoarding always seems to win out, though. I don't think you can help it if you love beauty. There are so many beautiful things around and sometimes you know you've just got to own them! When you've finished decluttering your studio, perhaps you could come and declutter mine! It's getting ridiculous in there now. When I look back to when I first had it, and how tidy and uncluttered it was, I could despair... If I could finish my UFOs that would help, because they take up a lot of room. I love your cabinet of delights. I have my mother's antique cabinet (which was my grandmother's too) full of my "treasures" at the bottom of the stairs and when I come down on the stairlift I can look at it all. Everything has a story! I also adore old suitcases - I think you've seen the ones I've got in my studio. Mostly they're not visible these days because there's too much clutter in front of them. I MUST tidy up in there... You inspire me to get on with it!

    Happy WOYWW,

  16. Oh my goodness Diana I think we must be twins separated at birth haha. We are so in tune with one another with our gatherings and wanting to live with less.
Wouldn’t it be marvellous if a helicopter could picks us up and take us to each other’s houses in the blink of an eye.
I’ll put it on my wish list xxx

  18. Both my parents were hoarders so its in my blood but I like you restrict my treasures. I need my little treasures around me ,they help me create besides life would be so dull if we without any treasures.I also love old suitcases and use them to store my fabrics and finished pieces in ....

  22. Thank you for your reply, Diana, and for your lovely comment - your fruity soups sound delicious! Definitely something to try. Today my hubby brought in the first bucket of apples from our tree and I've been looking up different things to do with them rather than the endless stewed apples! Apple and parsnip soup sounds fabulous! Do you have a recipe or do you just chuck it all in? Both our kitties are very determined once they make up their minds what they want!! As for decluttering, no chance yet. I got my felt making stuff out yesterday and found I'd left a bottle of soapy water in the box and it's leaked... Everything is spread out to dry at the moment so there's even more chaos than usual in the room!!

  23. Thank you for the recipe, Diana - that sounds delicious! I'll make a note of it. My hubby is in the utility room at the moment, cutting up the first lot of apples. I really wanted to do some fermented ones, and also maybe make cider (you can do this from the apple peel!) but I haven't got enough jars and bottles. What with my kombucha and kefir and everything, this is likely to take over the whole house if I don't watch out!! Oooh blackberries... we used to have huge cultivated ones in our Plymouth garden but no apples, and now we've got fabulous apples and no blackberries! What fun we would have, making pies together with our produce!! I haven't organised my felt making stuff yet - I'm leaving it out to make sure it's all properly dry, while I am busy making little felt balls to embellish the ends of the scarf now the knitting is finished.
