Mini Collages

I have recently been making little collages and have found them very enjoyable to do and also quite addictive.  To get myself organised I decided to make some grid stencils.  It's something I was taught to do in an art class many moons ago at college, and it's a useful way of displaying small samples of textiles, textures, techniques and so on.
These are A4 and fit my sketchbook perfectly - it's neater and quicker than trying to approximate the grid squares or re-measure each time. I made several different sized grids and the effort it took to work out the measurements and cut them out is more than worth it!

This week I picked the words 'Maps' and 'Turquoise' from my prompt jar and have spent a little time each day putting ideas down onto the collage grid.

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW

  1. I love your little collages, the colour is so pretty and pastel-like whereas my maps contain a lot of harsher colours. The effort taken in making those grids is definitely worth it and I can see how effective they will be, especially as time goes on. What a great idea. I always enjoy your work.

  2. Great job with the grid stencils. I have got some somewhere but couldn't find them so just cut out some different size sqaures masks to keep me going for the time being. Your prompt jar is a great idea and I might use that idea when I get fed up of playing with colours and abstract designs. Of course the new project box might distract me for a while! Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww. Hugs Angela x9x

  7. What a genius idea?! I might have to copy that if I can cope with the measuring etc. As always I adore your mini collages. I particularly like the texture paste stencilling which I thought was stitching at first. I might also have to pinch the idea of the jar of prompts because otherwise I'd feel overwhelmed with choice. I'd love to know what's in your jar! Have a great week, Lisa-Jane #14 www.prettymypage.co.uk

  9. Love your collages. Ihave been thinking about grid collages. When I did grid mixed media I cut them out as I had messed up the edges. Do you put a frame over yours to display? They are so neat! Happy WOYWW. Angela #10

    1. Hi Angela, they are just roughly kept within the lines, although I often go over! I have a grid that has a 1cm bigger aperture than a card mount and I use that if I'm planning on mounting my work but I don't use the sketchbook for that. The little ones are just ideas I'm putting down so I've never thought of displaying them.

  15. Hi Diane, I am trying to work out the measurements for both A4 and A3 . So far I have the A4 sheet with 76 mm squares and the A3 with 100 mm squares. My son in law says he will cut the templates for me. I wondered what your smallest size aperture was? Angela x
