Winter Garden Seed Heads

On my desk this week is a collection of seed heads and dried flowers taken from my garden - I've been using them as inspiration for the series of works I've been doing on the Winter Garden - you can see some of the work here.

I have also glued some gelli printed deli papers onto A5 handmade paper ready to collage and embroider.

I am linking up with What's On Your Work desk Wednesday so why not pop over and have a nose at what other people have on their desks this week!

  1. I like the seed heads. Why do so many folk cut down everything as soon as the flowers are over. The seed heads are usually so glorious, and add something special to a winter garden.
    Lovely gelli prints. Well done.
    Take care. God bless.

  3. Beautiful prints, especially on handmade paper, soft, subtle colours....and I love seed heads especially covered with frost...think it's one of natures prettiest sights. Looking forward to seeing these prints incorporated into your fabulous work! Ruth x

  4. Hi Diana, thanks for visiting already. You've beat me to it (and always will as I go to the gym on Wed morning).
I love your photos of the seed heads. The make the garden pretty in the winter time. Beautiful!
The gelli prints are beautiful too. I have finally found some deli paper (which is not usually available in Europe) The lady that does the patch work had a roll and was willing to sell me a meter.
    Have a great week,

  5. Beautiful photos of the winter seed heads, Diana, and as for your backgrounds, they are as scrumptious as ever! Just gorgeous. Thank you for your good wishes for my upcoming surgery, and your continuing prayers. Yes, jittery about sums it up! We should have had a lovely fortnight of quality time together, resting and preparing, and having spoily times but it has been ruined by stress, stress and more stress over Mum but we have finally got her to agree, however unwillingly, to go into respite care, and she's going TODAY!!! We have had some spoilies though. One further hospital appt. with stoma nurse tomorrow, then in at 7 a.m. Fri. I can feel the love and support and prayers of all my blogging friends and it's lovely to know everyone is behind us.

    Happy WOYWW,

  6. I love seed heads too! That's why I don't cut down the autumn growth, the garden birds love rooting around in them, looking for insects etc. your photos are, as ever, completely gorgeous! But gelli deli prints made me laugh! Just my mad brain, enjoying the sounds of the words :-)
The hedge has been tackled in short bursts, but as I'm a big strapping girl, it hasn't been too much of a problem!

  7. I love those seed head photos. They're so sculptural. And, I love your Gelli print backgrounds. They are so subtle and different from the usual Gelli backgrounds that are out there.

  9. Love, love, love that technique with gelli print on deli on handmade paper. I am just blown away - it's gorgeous!! I made paper once long ago, and it is so fun. Me thinks I need to do that again! But this is why I follow you...another gorgeous project because I can't imagine how fun it will be when you embroider on it too. So yes, the little box on my table is a heavy ceramic I guess. It has two compartments inside, and I've had it for years and years. Bought it long ago at Pier I Imports. Hugs! Sandy Leigh #48

  19. Even your photos are fab...on my desk they would look like well, dead seed heads. Somehow your photos make them mysterious and quite lovely!

  20. Oh I adore things like this. One of the best gifts my Craig got me was a bunch of dried teazle (sp?) Special because he suffers terribly with hayfever and had waded through waist high grass to get me them, I'd mentioned in passing they would be nice to draw.

I love dried grasses and flowers and my Mum (Queen of plant resuscitation) used to despair at my having bought yet another dead flower because I had thought the brown petals so beautiful and unusual. Whoops. I tell you those shop keepers saw me coming - but I'm still the same now. Your photos are gorgeous.
