Guitar Gift Box and Card and WOYWW

My youngest nephew is very much into his electric guitar and is saving for a good quality amp, so for his 15th birthday hard cash was his gift preference!  Here's the guitar themed card and gift box that I made for him - the box was trickier than I anticipated and looks much better from afar!

The card was stencilled and I used silver foil to highlight some of the guitar parts - the strings were sewing cotton.  The box was covered in Glossy Accents to give is a high shine with Liquid Pearls and Enamel Accents for the extra bits.

And on a completely different note sitting on on my desk today is a patchwork pin cushion I made - I was taught the technique this week by a very clever friend.  The pink ribbons are only pinned on for effect - a bit too much pink for my taste - but I'm hoping to find some suitable green ribbon at Hobbycraft this morning!

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  2. Hi Diana, that card & box is wonderful, a very novel way to give cash! The pincushion is fab, but I'm with you on the pink! I might have used it in one of my cards this week, but normally I avoid it like the plague, lol. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #4 X

  3. What a beautiful pin cushion - now an accomplished quilter as well.
Lovely guitar card and what a fabulous box - I hadn't realised on the first photo that the left image was the box. Fabulous!

  4. How creative is that, wow! I bet you're his favourite auntie! A very pretty pin cushion too. I like a bit of pink in the right places, but I know what you mean - for your impeccable taste that hot pink is probably a bit too harsh a contrast. It will be fun to choose just the right ribbon to go with it! Have a lovely week, Diana! zsuzsa #14

  5. Oh my goodness... that's certainly a trip into a whole new look for you - but your trademark attention to the finest of details is still in evidence. The stringing of the guitar is simply amazing, as are the tuners and the frets - and such a clever little pocket around the back for the money. I'm sure this will be treasured. I hope you find the green ribbons you're after... the pin cushion is very sweet, but yes a little pink at the moment!!

  15. Oooh, that box cost you a lot of time to make but it's gorgeous! I love the pin cushion too... I still use a very old one (I think from the sevenies...) - a well known 'chinese' pin cushin with little chinese man 'holding it', can you picture that? Lots of crafty friends had one of these in the seventies... I guess I am the only one left, ha! Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday, I hope you are well, stay save dear! Big hug (a virtual one, we're adviced to not shake hands anymore in the Netherlands...) Marit #7

  16. Wow - that box is beyond amazing! The pocket on the back is so clever, as are the strings and frets - well done! The card is also lovely - I hope your nephew finds these wonderful gifts as delightful as I do! Love the pin cushion; reminds me of a small quilt block, and I love the "rolled" detailing. I know you'll find the right green ribbon to complement the rest of this sweet make. xxx Lynn
