WOYWW 13th Anniversary

Happy 13th Anniversary to all Deskers over at WOYWW - what an achievement, what a fabulous group to be part of and of course a huge thank you and gold star to Julia who makes this possible each week.
Everything has been ATC's here so there's nothing on my desk to show today -  so here's a card I made for the Hubs a few weeks ago!  I've been busy finishing my ATC's and with some help with the die cutting and some left handed stamping (elbow still playing up) I've managed to complete my bundle and they are ready to be sent to their new homes - cutting it a bit fine but I did it!

Color This Quote

I've just finished this month's challenge for Colour this Quote, over at Artists in Blogland, and the quote to inspire us was
'Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year'
                                                                    Ralph Waldo Emerson

This was quite a difficult challenge for me, as at the moment every day is most definitely NOT the best day in the year!  However, I decided to think about 'best days' and immediately holidays and childhood sprung to mind.  A lot of distress ink, Ranger dyes and rubber stamping later and I finally finished.  I stepped out of my comfort zone and moved away from my favoured cream and neutral backgrounds and palettes.  I am disappointed that the gold embossed writing along the top just didn't show up clearly in photos or scans, and it's also a bit wonky - but that's because I didn't do it on one of my 'best days'!

If only every day was a day like these!

I removed the ink with clean water on a fine brush to write the words next to the image, and it reminded me of the 'invisible' writing we used to do as kids - I think onion skins were involved somehow - anyone remember that?!

TAG TUESDAY - HEARTS THEME

For this week's tag I wanted the heart to really stand out, so I decided to keep the background a simple black and white.
It gave me the opportunity to use a beautiful antique print of a moth that I have, and I stitched the red heart on to the wing, just where a heart-shaped marking would be. I added washi tape down the side of the tag and used some Sticky Fixits to elevate the wing and give a 3D effect.

The idea originally came from the Butterfly Alphabet (www.butterflyalphabet.com).
I love the different images on the wings and how every letter of the alphabet is represented by markings found on actual butterflies and moths. This gave me the idea to stitch the little red heart when I found my antique moth print had a heart shaped marking on it.
