Over at Artists in Blogland there is a new challenge called Color This Quote - it sounded interesting and fun and I immediately had an idea of what I could do for it, so I decided to give it a go - I hope I am not too late!
This weeks quote is
'Good friends are like quilts - they age with you yet never lose their warmth'.
The image is of my mum Joan (on the left) and her best friend Eileen - they had a warm and strong friendship for over 75 years. I hand stitched small pieces of 'quilt' to represent the unbreakable bond between them - the little scraps of letters, the stamps symbolizing the miles between them, and fragments of memories from their days out in London, where they both grew up - all carefully held together by strong threads.
It's a nice picture and a beautiful composition.
ReplyDeleteIt's not too late at all! What a wonderful journal page. I love that old photo and your stitching and the honoring of your mom and her good friend. Thank you for sharing that and also for your kind words on my blog!
ReplyDeleteWow, love this piece Diane. Great use of the stamps across the bottom...thanks for visiting my blog today it's so nice to discover someone whose work you can resonate with. xox
ReplyDeleteA lovely page. The signification of the quilt and the stamps is a lovely idea. What a lovely photo to have of your Mum and her friend. Thank you for visiting my blog recently and for your lovely comments.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute Diana and so beautifully done
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! Both the page and your mother's friendship. I love how you used the stamps and other bits to make up the "quilt." Beautiful soft color scheme, too. Just fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI had missed this post somehow - so glad I found it! This is just wonderful, such great composition, so heartfelt and with so much lovely, meaningful detail. I love the stitching, and the look of what I assume are transfers. It reminds me of my English Grandma and her best friend Kay Mac since she was a girl in Liverpool. They were the best of friends for almost 80 years, even though my Grandma had moved here to the US.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely piece! How special is that to have such a long, loving friendship!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful and meaningful page. A wonderful photo and I love the stitching. What a great celebration of such a deep and long friendship.
