Peonies

I was so pleased to find that Mosaic Monday is now being hosted by Judith over at Lavender Cottage - thank you Judith!  Next task - to put together a mosaic to post on it!  I have a great love of Peonies but can't seem to grow them in the garden - they simply disappear over winter, never to be seen again!  I took these photos a few weeks ago after finding a bunch of them in my local store - I was unable to resist!

  4. These are such beautiful photos, Diana! I love peonies too and have several in the garden. I love how you photographed them along with vintage pottery. Just beautiful!

  5. You have captured the beauty of this delicate pink peony well and I'm sorry yours don't seem to overwinter. They are my favourite late spring blooming flower and many come inside to vases to scent the house.
Thank you for joining Mosaic Monday.

  6. Quite beautiful, Diana. What a delicate shade of pink, and I love the groupings with the objects to make a delightful still-life.

Thanks for your reply - we visited the American Museum in Bath many years ago and were entranced by the quilts. I shall never forget the widow's quilt - for a single bed, and with a sharp, black, arrow design to depict the sharp pangs of grief. That one nearly reduced me to tears! I can't wait to see Kaffe Fassett's work in the flesh. I have most of his books, and most of my knitting has been inspired by him.

  7. Ah yes, the ravishing, elusive peony - as in many things I share your passion for it, but also your inability to grow it! Maybe that's partly why I love them, maybe if if I had a yard full of them they'd just be nothing special, but when I see a big gorgeous bloom in the occasional yard or at a store I'm just entranced. And your pictures of them, absolutely dreamy, I especially love that bit of text you added to the first one.

  8. I love these too.... they flower for such a short time in the garden (if at all!) that I can't afford to give them the space but I do love them.

Your photographs would not be out of place in a Country Living Magazine/calendar :)

  9. Oh, I love peonies. I don't have a garden, so I have to content myself with enjoying my mother's :) These are beautiful photos.
