The Resilience of the Winter Garden

This is a page from my sketchbook and it's still sitting on my desk open from when I photographed it early last week.  It's quite a busy piece and I wanted to show the resilience of the garden in winter, all that's going on that we don't see until spring arrives.

I used Grunge paste and glitter, gold leaf, beads and Glossy accents with micro beads.  I discovered that micro beads ping off the glue from the hot glue gun once it's cooled down!!  I'll be finding them around my studio for years to come!

  3. Another exquisite piece, Diana! I love all the gorgeous textures. Good tip about the microbeads and hot glue. I've had things come unstuck with hot glue, too. It's not the glue for everything! Well done, getting your surgery eventually. I know only too well what it's like, waiting and then being turned back at the last minute. Thanks for your encouraging comment, and please, no survivor's guilt lol lol! I am very pleased you've had yours done! My turn will come - one day - I hope!!! I hope you recover really quickly, but don't rush things - rest and relax!

    Happy WOYWW,

  4. Lush!! This is so pretty and a bit oriental!
I wish you a quick recovery and enjoy your fussy head, if possible. I found it is a good moment to just rest and dream....

  5. Get well soon Diana, meds can be both a blessing and a hindrance so rest up and feel better very soon. STUNNING and exquisite page, so much texture in your winter garden :-) xxx

  6. Exquisite page! Depicts the garden in winter so well.
That glue is a pain. I also have a German product that works quite well called Schmuckstein kleber by Rayher Hobbykunst. It's gemstone glue and it adheres to fabric, glass, ceramics, paper, cardboard, wood, and plastic.
    Hope you recover soon.
    Have a great week,

PS I'm thinking of our fellow desk hopper Shoshi today who's operation has been postponed yet again! I can't imagine how she must be feeling.

  7. Lol, I bet you'll find micro beads in your bra too! That's what happened to me and glitter when I worked in school...and quite often we hadn't actually been using the stuff that day. It got everywhere :-)
I'm so glad you got that cancellation....at least you've got the Spring to get better and the summer to now look forward to. Hope you get better very soon.
And your work, as ever, is exquisite!
    Hugs, LLJ 31 xx

  10. Sorry Diana - the comment just did a disappearing act! The page is beautiful - your work is lovely. Winter can be so very beautiful, and so often, all we see is the inconvenience. Trust your recovery goes well - don't worry about visiting - I know you peek often, and so often leave a lovely comment. Thanks.
    Take care. God bless.

  17. I remember taking part in a circle journal and receiving one of them through the post where the cover had been smothered in clusters of those micro beads. they did not travel well, they were in the jiffy, on my floor - everywhere. My glitter-phobic other half nearly fainted clear away :D I tried my best to glue them all back on but like you say - they were probably back off by the time they reached the next recipient.

Your page is absolutely glorious - just love everything about it. I can't stop looking at all that texture and the depth - it's wonderful.

  23. I'm so happy for you that you have your surgery behind you now, and I hope it went well. I guess the fact that you're posting at all is a good sign!

I just love this piece, so much texture and so much going on, but the neutral colors keep it so rich. That's hilarious about the beads, I can just picture them flying off the page!

  27. How are you feeling after your surgery, now, Diana? I hope you are feeling better, and starting to reap the benefits of it. These things take time and your body needs to adjust.

Thank you for your visit and your nice upbeat and cheering comment! I'm glad you enjoyed my post about our lovely outing to Brunel Woods. On Sunday we went out to lunch and along the sea front afterwards (not nearly such a strain on the buggy!) and went down the little funicular railway to the beach, but silly me forgot to take my camera! It was such a beautiful spring day too. I was kicking myself the whole time.

Still no news of a definite date for my surgery but the secretary thought it would be this Friday. I am hoping they will phone to confirm it today.

  29. Thanks for another lovely comment, Diana. You take care of yourself - I'm glad the family are ganging up to help you along the way! My hubby is more of a worrier than me but I've certainly had my moments over the past couple of months! I heard today that I'm definitely on for this Friday (27th) in the afternoon, for my surgery. I should be in about 7-10 days and when I start to feel a bit better, hopefully my hubby will bring the laptop in and I'll be able to make contact with everyone again. I'm feeling OK about it all at the moment, but I expect the butterflies will return over the next day or two!

Glad you like my bed! It will be much better when I do it properly. This is just a mock-up because I got fed up with looking at the bare frame, and I might as well have it prettied up for when I come out of hospital.

Get lots of rest and pamper yourself lots!
