I've had the crochet bag out recently because even if I had the inclination it's too cold to go up to my unheated studio!
So I have been playing about learning some new stitches. The ones at the back are Woven stitch, Elizabeth stitch and Blanket stitch, and the one on top of them is Lemon Peel stitch.
Below is a close-up of the Lemon Peel stitch - it's very easy to do and just a little bit different - I think this is my new favourite.
I found the above pattern here, while mooching the internet. It was made as bunting but I think I'm going to use it as a flap on a small make-up bag as a gift for a friend - I shall make it up in a firmer linen yarn and block it so it has a better shape than my sample.
Now let's see if my plan gets beyond the thinking stage!
I'm joining up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.
Oooh so pretty - never been able to get to grips with knitting or crochet - but I guess there's still time! Happy Wednesday, Cindy #18
ReplyDeleteYou see, even your crochet is neat and meticulous! Your crafting is so beautiful and perfect, the complete opposite from my slapdash "let's throw it together and see what happens'" approach :-D. Hope you're well and not too snowed in!

I hadn't realised there were so many crochet stitches. Lovely neat work. Hope it warms up for you! Sarah #15
ReplyDeleteHI Diana, I too was surprised to know there were many different crochet stitches. All very beautiful. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #3 XxX
ReplyDeleteHi Diana. Lovely examples of the different stitches - and that little piece is beautiful - a pocket edge on a pretty summer dress...
ReplyDeleteTake care. God bless.

Your work looks so beautiful, and as if you had a peaceful, and happy time doing it, Diana. Your friend, will so love that flap crocheted for a make-up bag, which will be lovely and special.

I've never been able to crochet (BJ, fellow desker) tried to teach me once but my head couldn't grasp it! love the stitches, they are so beautiful!! Helen #1
ReplyDeleteYour crocheting is lovely. The white is beautiful.

Hi Diana, gorgeous samples. I used to do quite a bit of crochet though not for a long time. I love the hooks you're using they look beautiful. Thanks for stopping over at mine and happy woyww, Angela x16x
ReplyDeleteOoh, those make me want to take up crocheting again! I did it when I was very young, my English Grandmother taught me. I still have the lovely orange, brown and avocado green blanket I made! I hear ya about not wanting to be in the studio right now, all I want lately is to be under a comfy blanket on the couch.
ReplyDeleteBlimey Diana, you must have the cleanest hands! I love the lemon peel stitch, very nice and lumpy bumpy...would make a good dishcloth. Like the idea of the pattern worked in linen thread, it’ll be lovely. Keep that spot on the seat, absolutely no point going out!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty is this, Diana! Gorgeous. It would look fabulous in crochet cotton. I've done quite a bit of crochet lace in the past - lovely to do. Also, your crochet hooks are absolutely beautiful! I've never seen ones like that before.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated WOYWW,

Super duper crochet, all new stitches to me! Even your crochet hooks are beautiful, remind me of my lace making bobbins. Thanks for visiting BJ#8
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Jan - your work always looks so fresh, neat and well, just perfect - I wish I was better at crochet but my hands just won't do what my brain tells them - ha ha maybe it's my brain sending wrong instructions - I do find crochet patterns tricky! xx Jo
ReplyDeleteYour crochet hooks are a delight in themselves - what lovely objects - and your intricate work with them looks lovely too. I'm not much of a one for sewing/knitting/crocheting myself - I always seem to just tie myself in knots - but I love seeing the results of other people's labours! Looking forward to seeing the finished make-up bag - sounds a lovely idea.

Very nice! The different stitches are beautiful. It looks so detailed...love the hooks! Sorry I am so late getting around this week but all sorts of things jumped in my way! Vickie #32
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, thank you for your lovely comment and sorry for the delay in replying - I've been very busy and then exhausted in between, and suffering with the extreme cold over the weekend too, but fortunately it's much warmer now and all the snow has gone! Like you I have loved looking at it through the window. My hubby was delighted to be told he could drive again but then he couldn't because of the snow! So glad you liked my efforts on my desk last week. The mystery project is progressing well and I'm pulling out all the stops to get it completed before I go into hospital so hopefully the wraps will be off soon! The rack for the boards works really well and I recommend it. I haven't forgotten about the carousel for the stickles/alcohol inks - will do you a detailed drawing one day!! As for the kittens, I don't think it can be hormones because they were spayed lol!! There's definitely an adolescent teenagery independence and naughty rebellious streak coming in, though. My hubby says they will settle down and get all lovey dovey again when they are "all growed up" haha! They are definitely flexing their muscles, with each other as well as with us, and have had a few spats over the past week, but then they kiss and make up. I'm anticipating a message daily from the hospital telling me my operation has been postponed because I'm sure the bad weather will have affected their lists. I won't believe it's actually happening until the anaesthetic sends me off to lala land. Like you I've been extremely cold and the first day of the snow, I simply couldn't keep warm whatever I did! So nice to feel warm again.
