Orchid Birthday Card and WOYWW

I love orchids but real ones aren't for me - I can kill pretty much any house plant you care to name, but we have a cousin who has a beautiful collection of real ones and they seem to be always in bloom whenever we visit, so for her birthday card I dug out a never-used orchid die - I've had it for a while and I knew I'd need it one day!
I kept the design simple with just a silver embossed border stamp so there was nothing to really compete with the ornate flowers.

So as you can see absolutely no Christmas cards made yet and not even a feeling of panic rising up in me either - I'm sure it will kick in soon!

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  1. I'm glad to hear there is no feel of panic regarding the CC's Diana I think I may be having your share hee hee!! What a stunning card, I'm with you on the plant front as i'm a plant killer too but my Mother has a real gift and I recently rescued a very sad and neglected mini Orchid from a Local supermarket giving it to my Mom to see if she could do anything with it. It's now a wonderful display of hope..
Wishing you a very Happy WOYWW Tracey #6

  2. Ha! I knew you and I had good reason to be friends as I fail completely with house plants too. Yet I can grow pretty much anything outside...weird huh?! That orchid die is really pretty, I bet she'll love the card!

  3. Such a beautiful card - and so right to leave the simplicity of the background to let that amazing orchid shine. I love the subtlety of the colouring on the stem and buds. Who needs Christmas cards anyway?!

  5. Hi Diana, what a gorgeous die. So realistic. I admit although I can keep most houseplants, I've never had much luck with orchids either. Yet the house next door has lots in their window, so I can't blame it on the window direction, lol. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #5 X

  9. what a beautiful card! I have never tried to keep orchids; I never used to really like them, till I started visiting Kew - they have an orchid festival each February(ish) and there they look stunning! thanks for visiting already. Helen #1

  10. well how calm and inviting is your place today! Love the orchid, best one I’ve seen off this die, I think your subtle colouring is a triumph! I can’t keep a houseplant alive past about a week. I have a friend who has a 10foot long kitchen window absolutely crowded with ordchids. It’s lurid, but lovely!

  11. Hi Diana, beautiful card, love the orchid die. It appears we crafters have something in common with killing off houseplants ... is that a prerequisite trait of a crafter I wonder? Thanks for stopping by earlier, I'll try my best to produce 3 quilts before Christmas, but I won't worry if I don't. Life's too short to worry! Have a lovely week Heather x #9

  12. This is a gorgeous card. I keep Orchids too and have advised lots of people about how to care for them. They are actually simple to look after but if you get it wrong they will let you down very quickly. I have some Orchids that must have lived with me for over fifteen years and just keep flowering. They are a very special plant. Happy woyww, Angela x19x

  14. What a beautiful orchid card, Diana. Such subtle colours, and the silver border really sets it off. Rather a different style from your usual but I love it just the same!! Thank you for your visit and I'm really glad you like my latest project. I am rather enamoured of that colour scheme, too! I have a love-hate relationship with the hot glue gun - it's brilliant for things like flowers, but hopeless for sticking metal feet on boxes haha! There really is the right glue for everything in the end... A few weeks ago my glue gun paid me back for being rude about it and burnt my hand in a couple of places - I knocked it over and spashed hot glue on myself. NOT recommended. I'm hoping my Ebay goodies arrive soon because I'd like to get on with this project. I have started making some more roses to co-ordinate with the first lot and will blog about it soon.

    Happy belated WOYWW,
