October Birthdays and WOYWW

Not much crafting done lately I'm afraid, but I'll show a couple of birthday cards I've made this month - they were propped up on my desk waiting to be photographed for ages as I discovered a scratch on the lens of my camera and had to wait for a new one to arrive.  I was so disappointed to find that my 'new' camera was too old be mended but I've picked up an identical second hand one so I don't have to learn how to use a different one -  I'm soooooo lazy when it comes to reading instruction manuals!
On to the cards - this one has vellum leaves and stamped Tissue wrap which I adhered to a Khadi paper base for my sister's card...

... and this card for my nephew's 17th birthday is based on Dungeons and Dragons - he's a bit of a fan of it at the moment.   I cut and stenciled the D&D logo onto an embossed 'shield' that I edged with copper tape.  I made a small matching box to hold birthday money and gift cards, which is always preferable to anything I might go and buy him!!

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  1. My heart sunk when I read about the scratch on your lens Diana, It's awful when a tool becomes damaged. Glad to read you managed to pick up a replacement and I have to agree there are many more interesting reads than an instruction manual, life is just too short. I adore your first card, beautiful work.. so glad you manged to photograph and share it to us all. Stunning piece. Your second will be well loved along with the clever money/goft card box... Money is always a winner for the younger generation.
Hoping you are well & wishing you a very Happy WoywW Tracey #3

  4. Now that birthday card is a work of art in itself and could be framed after the birthday celebrations. I think all nieces and nephews prefer hard cold cash $$. They do tend to cringe when you hand them something home made!! Have a lovely week.

  5. Hi Diana
Your crafting is as exquisite as ever and it’s lovely to see you here. Blogland has certainly changed a lot now. Many people have disappeared off it. I know I use Instagram more than anything now, but I do like to keep up with Julia and her desk hoppers.
    Have a lovely week

  10. Both are stunning. I had to do a double take because the paper looks like canvas. It's absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

  11. A stunning leaf card - the colours are blended so beautifully on the leaf, and I love the real sycamore pods and the vivid red berries drawing the eye in the centre. The Khadi paper is gorgeous - I have a small album of it, and I love just to stroke it! The rustic woodgrain look for the D&D card and giftbox is just perfect - what a great little set for your nephew. The detailing of the fine twine and eyelets is delicious.

I'm absolutely with you on the faff of trying to master new technology. I dread the day any of my stalwarts die - camera/phone/laptop/Kindle - and I have to start all over again. So happy you found a replacement.

  13. Great cards Diana and I'm with you on instructions, not only that but they are not always that easy to understand and although I'm sure I could do more with my camera than I do as long as I get a reasonable photo I'm happy and if I'm not there is always Picasa and Paint Shop Pro! Happy woyww and wishing you a lovely creative week, Angela x17x

  15. I find it hard to buy a gift for youngsters, especially the male variety so money is always good for them. Am sure the card and gift box will be much appreciated - great ideas.
Love the other card - absolutely gorgeous and one which will no doubt stay on the mantle piece for a while.
Sorry about your lens, what a find getting a second hand camera - I hate reading manuals.

  18. Sorry to hear about the scratched camera lens, Diana, but I'm pleased you managed to get a camera the same - I know what you mean about sticking with what you are familiar with. After all, we've just done the same with our new car, haven't we! Your two cards are fabulous, and what different styles. I love them both. The D&D one is so stylish and unusual, especially with the matching box. He is going to be thrilled with that. I love the bold stencilling and the interesting backgrounds, the fastening on the box and those funky Gothic hinges! Great stuff. Thank you for your visit. The kitties are rather adorable, aren't they! I love how they cuddle up together like that. The teabag project is progressing slowly - too slowly because I'm too busy with other stuff at the moment, but I think I'll get there in the end. These teabags are just practice ones. Once I've perfected the technique I can move on to the real thing - sorry it's taking so long for the big reveal - it's getting a bit like Brexit!!!

    Happy WOYWW,

  22. Hi Diana. That first card is just stunningly beautiful. I hope that whoever receives it frames it!!! Glad you managed to sort a camera - how sad that your older one is regarded "too old" to bother with!! Oh, this throw away age!
    Take care. God bless.

  23. Ah Diana, each of your creations are exquisite, but must admit I love this first one with its leafy details and so delightful to see.
Your nephew no doubt recognised the emblems skilfully added to the second card but heard of dragons and dungeons but that it!
Phew what a blessing re camera, loved tools are hard to part with, I must confess I rarely use my camera now, use phone, which is severely limiting when out walking but wouldn’t carry camera then anyway..l really wanted it today for amazing cluster of pelicans took on phone but suspect not usable!
Thanks for Sharing, God bless, hugs Shaz in Oz.x
