Cross Stitch Needle Case

I've been so inspired by the beautiful cross stitch being done by Shoshi and Lunch Lady Jan that I decided to give it a go.  I've attempted a small needle case, which is intended as a gift despite the inside being a bit of a bodge job!  I kept trimming up the wonky felt pages and they kept getting smaller and smaller - so I edged them in running stitch to make them look like they should be like that!
I copied the pattern from a design on Pinterest and tweaked it a little while working it - a good tip is to tweak it first on paper as it saves a lot of unpicking!

I'm joining in with Julia over at WOYWW this week

  1. That’s a lovely design and looks fab as the cover of the needle case! Don’t you think that unpicking cross stitch is the most frustrating thing to do? Considering how easy it is to sew in the first place, unpicking is a nightmare. I laughed at the ever shrinking felt ‘pages’, it’s so easy to do, but they look ok!

  4. That is a lovely needle case Diana, I am sure the recipient will be pleased to receive it.
Are you still doing those lovely plaster pictures, I have missed seeing them so might have a scroll down your blog to look.
    Anyway, stay safe and well

  5. Hi Diana, lovely needle case such a sweet design too. I always cut felt with my guillotine as I can never get a straight edge with scissors but I have used pinking shears too that seems to work okay. Sending hugs and wishes for a happy woyww, Angela x17x

  6. Hi Diana. A great gift. Well done. I used to do an incredible amount of cross stitch - the old eyesight isn't so good these days, so I don't do as much - but I don't think I can ever have done one that ended up exactly like the pattern!!! Always changed something, somewhere!
    Take care. God bless

  7. Lovely to see you back, Diana. Your needle book is lovely! I agree with Jan that while cross stitch is quite quick to do, undoing it is another story - it's a major pain! I had to undo quite a bit at the beginning of Tiny Carpet #6 because I miscounted, and the error would have stuck out like a sore thumb if I'd left it - just one stitch out! I know what you mean about trimming and re-trimming the pages - easy to cut too much!

Thank you for your visit. Absolutely no problem with your comment this time. I am going to try and be ultra vigilant at checking what Wordpress considers to be spam because I keep losing people that way!

I have found the needle books project very satisfying and relaxing to do, but I am keen to move on now to something else. My hubby's throw will have to take priority over the Persian Tiles one. Our new furniture arrived this a.m. and we are very pleased with it! Nice to be comfy again.

    Happy WOYWW,

  9. Hi Diana, that is a lovely piece, not done any cross stitch for many years now. Smiling at the 'shrinking' pages, reckon we've all done that! Stay safe, have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #10 X

  10. Hi Diana oh this is so nice and will make a great pressie. I have to say I have a weakness for needlebooks, with my Great GrandMother & Great Auntie bothe being seamstresses I blame them entirely on the addiction. The count looks tiny on the Aida I don't go any smaller than 14. I'm not always so brave to cut felt by hand.. pinking sheers are my best friend for things like that hee hee.. I do Love that mustard colour. Beautiful work.. thank you for sharing Hugs Tracey #12 xx

  11. Lovely stitching - looks perfect to me! I wouldn't tell the inside pages were wonky. I'm familiar with the "keep trimming" phenomenon. I did that to my journal the other day and had to patch it up with some washi tape. I guess repairing things is just another form of creativity. This will make a very thoughtful gift! Have a lovely week, Diana! zsuzsa #29

  12. Really charming - the little acorn is so sweet, and I like the edged pages - even though it was a cover job!

  16. Ah Diana, how flattered Shoshi will be, and rightly so! It’s a lovely thing, that acorn design. I know the frustration of the felt pages, I swear it’s a scientific phenomenon that when you fold a piece with corners and edges meeting it’s fine. Fold it and try to put it in a cover? Nope, something sciency happens and it will neither be straight or fit. I seem to remember this problem even way back at school when I made a needle case. You’d think someone would have invested a lot of science in solving it by now!
