I've had some fun this week decorating shells.
I've been using some Spode patterned paper napkins as I do love blue and white - my previous blue and white shells are here.
I added some moss and artificial succulents to this little one.
I decided to try an oyster shell as I have seen some lovely ring dishes on Pinterest - this one is quite large at 12cm long. I added some gold leaf liqud to the edges and under side and gloss varnished the napkin side to a very high gloss.
I don't think this clam shell suits gloss varnish, I'll go over it with a couple of coats of a matte one. I am going to drill a hole in it, and add ribbon or twine to hang it with.
And here's my desk as it is at the moment - a sheet of white paper for photographing on, plus a clam shell and some paper napkins - I am going to paint the inside of the shell with white paint first so the dark markings don't show through the napkin, then this will become a dish - it's another large shell at about 14cm wide.
And finally some more little shells, using up some old paper napkins. I have no idea what to do with them but they were fun to make!

Well I always know that when I pop in to say hello it will be a visual treat. But, what can I say. ... AMAZINg, beautiful, quirky, quaint, Devine, simply stunning and absolutely gorgeous. Oh WOW Diana, those shells look amazing :) ~Stacy #24
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful project. Love the gold leafing. Enjoy a great week #24
ReplyDeleteI don’t know which I love the best, they’re all so gorgeous. I really do love the effect you get but I suspect you’re very patient with the gluey brush and napkin - I just know that I’d end up with more mess on me than beautifully applied to the shell, lol!!

Who would have thought that those shells would have ended up like that? They are truly beautiful and I think they would look gorgeous displayed in a basket of some kind. A shallow one I mean.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to make a wind chime with the one (plus others of course) that you are going to drill?
You mentioned sticking artificial flowers to one of them - you could attach those air plants (I think they are called) to one of them. They sell them at garden centres and they are often a kind of pale sage green in colour.
Love the one with the gold edging - you do the most exquisite work Diana. These need lace and a lovely polished surface - well that is how I am seeing them in my mind.

How beautiful your blue and white shells are! Is it willow pattern? I love the one with the gilded edge, especially. So unique.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week

Oh they are so pretty! I love the idea of the dish - because of the sloped sides, it would make a fab soap dish in a sea themed bathroom. Stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane #5
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Diana, what can one say? Exquisite hardly seems an adequate word to describe these stunning little works of art. Truly amazing. I love anything to do with the sea and I have quite a lot of shells, most of which are in a large glass jar decorating my bathroom. They are wonderful little creations in themselves. The little ones you have done would look lovely just arranged in a dish, or another larger shell. So pretty!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful shells, that's a great way to use the paper napkins. Look forward to seeing the clam shell when it's finished. Have a lovely creative woyww, Angela x14x
ReplyDeleteDiana, your shells are gorgeous! I would have NEVER thought to do something like that. I would like to say that I would try it, but the poor shells would probably suffer the consequences!! I have a beach trip coming up soon, so I may try to bring a basket full home and give it a whirl! You NEVER cease to amaze me with your gorgeous projects! Blessings for a beautiful rest of your week! ReplyDeleteOh wow those are gorgeous, really love the blue and white ones!
ReplyDeleteOh my word, these should be clustered in the guest rooms of every chic seaside hotel in Britain, they are just lovely to behold! I love the idea of the dish. And I also have to say, you make it sound really do-able, but I fear the combination of sticky, brush and thin tissue would be a lumpy mess in my hands! I have a few shell treasures sprinkled on top of some of my plant pots for the want of something better to do with them, this is such a lovely idea.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful idea and beautifully done.

I just love your decoupaged shells, such a lovely idea. Where do you buy your shells from? Also which paint did you use first? I shall go back to the other shell post and see if you mentioned it there. Have a great week Angela #16
ReplyDeleteSuch stunning work Diana. How about making a windchime type ornament from the smaller shells to hang in a window. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #3

Oh my goodness Diana! The shells are gorgeous - you seem to have such a skill for transforming the simplest thing and making a tiny work of art in everything you do. i like the oyster shell with a touch of gold. I bet they would sell on Etsy. Enjoy your weekend - I am so late with my blog comments this week! xx Jo
ReplyDeleteHI Diana, oh those shells are just beautiful, what a great idea! I once tried something similar with snail shells, but they didn't work out so well. Yours are totally gorgeous, and I am totally going to pinch that idea :o) Have a great BH weekend. Annie C #21
