Emboidery and WOYWW

I have been embroidering a couple of small panels for card toppers and I'm at the bead sewing stage now, hence the fluffy bead mat on my desk.  I also purchased a couple of skeins of embroidery thread to match some linen I already had - I was very pleased with the colour match considering it was mainly guess work as I purchased it online!  I am feeling the need to move away from neutral colours for a while!

Before mowing the lawn I took the opportunity to pick a few of these pretty weeds that have been springing up all over it -I used them for embroidery inspiration on one of the above panels.

My last ATC of the swap arrived from Susan in Australia - it's gorgeous and features a string pull background, which is defintiely on my 'to try' list - and a lovely little envelope with it too.  I would have posted about it last week but I thought Thursday was Wednesday!

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  1. Diana, I always love seeing your work, but your link goes back to Julia's. However, I was NOT to be deterred and found you from a previous post. This is an absolutely incredible beauty. I'm in awe that you got your inspiration from some weeds. We find inspiration in some of the most unusual places at times. Happy WOYWW from # 12.

  3. Beautiful colour match with the linen Diana, those grass weeds are very pretty things. We have them in our grass too, not sure what they are called but they are tough little cookies. Your embroidered panels will make wonderful card toppers.
I'm smiling about the thought it was Wednesday on Thursday.. welcome to my world :))
Happy WoywW Tracey #1 xx take care x

  5. I have those flowers/weeds too! They are lovely and perfect inspiration for that gorgeous embroidery - those card toppers are going to be lush. I have to say that Paste the Wall paper is the way to go, it was SO much easier than the old sort. We managed it without arguing so it must be easy, lolol!!

  6. Diana, I don't think I could ever get bored with looking at your beautiful creations! The likeness of the week on your panel is spot on! But I wouldn't think you'd do less! LOL I love that color of new panel and skein to match! That was lucky! You NEVER know what you will get when you order online! I'd rather try to purchase in store so I could touch and see for myself, but then there is a certain amount of danger element when I walk into a craft store of any type! LOL Your ATC from Susan was gorgeous and I need to try that technique as well! So cool! Have a great Wednesday and rest of your week! Felicia #30

  7. I can totally see how that humble weed inspired your beautiful project! Very tiny, delicate details that no doubt require spades of patience, that I just wouldn't have. So unique and classic! And getting post all the way from Australia is so exciting! Just think about the journey it took to get to you! Happy WOYWW Diana - nice to see you posting again! xx zsuzsa #31

  10. Beautiful embroidery Diana. I have let some so called weeds grow in our garden this year as I love the flowers they produce. We have some large thistles this year and they are beautiful. I've looked at that String pull technique and keep thinking I should give it a go, maybe soon who knows. Wishing you a happy and crafty woyww, Angela x23x

  14. The rate at which the days are going, I’m in a constant state of surprise about the days of the week, I’m pretty sure it’s because generally I lack deadlines and so don’t even look at a calendar for days on ends! Love the embroidery and the inspiration you took for it. Those blue skeins look an exact match to me..am excited to see where the non neutral path is taking you..and me!

  16. Gorgeous embroidery. Have to say that is one thing I can't do currently, with ease anyway, due to the Carpal Tunnel. I'm curious, how long is the recovery time and did you get both done at different times or not? Thanks for the visit BJ#25

  17. Your embroidery is exquisite as always, Diana. You have captured the plantain in seed absolutely perfectly! I've always loved them, and how the seeds begin at the bottom like that. Perfect!

Thank you for your visit. Everything is coming into place now - I've had my first phone appointment today with another tomorrow so I know a bit more about when and where I am supposed to be doing things! I'm glad you enjoyed the kitty photos this week. I love that box one too - not just the cuddling up, but the fact that the top of it is chewed to destruction, and all the bits of cardboard on the floor! Fortunately they grew out of that phase, unlike Beatrice, one of our old cats, who went on with it throughout her life till she didn't have sufficient teeth left to manage it!!

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  20. I am so late getting round the desks this week. Your embroidery is so pretty and amazing that you get inspiration from such a simple little wild plant. Clever ATC too - so nice to hear from our global friends isn't it. xx Jo
