Moving Away from Neutrals!

On my desk is a little needlecase I made this week.  Last week I was wanting to move away from the neutral colour palette that I work with so often,  but despite envisaging a bright and colourful week of embroidery, somehow it just didn't happen!

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week

  1. I know that feeling... embrace the brights, I think - and then lo and behold I'm back in neutral territory! But this is beautiful - the soft textures in contrast with the beading - wonderful!

  2. It’s so beautiful Diana. Isn’t it funny how we are drawn to colour and pattern in different ways. You should see my wardrobe there’s hardly a frock in there that doesn’t scream at you haha.

  3. Sometimes we just need the peace and serenity of those calming colours.. Bright lights and bold colours always await our creative minds. Beautiful work Diana, I can feel the softness of this sweet needlebook almost within my hand.

  4. I go for soft tones all the time, I love brights but can’t don’t seem to have the crafting knack of using them. This is why I adore your way, there is beauty in calming colours. I love the details like all the different sized beads that you’ve arranged perfectly and the little motif on the back and the soft felt ‘pages’ with the toning blanket stitch. LUSH!

  6. I'm a color person. I think color makes or breaks the project, but I also have favorite colors I go to all the time. I actually love that blue and the beading, which spoke to me. This needlecase is stunning. Happy WOYWW from #2.

  9. I love neutrals - then again, I love colour too! I've just discovered someone on Instagram who almost exclusively works in neutrals and very muted colour tones (https://www.instagram.com/harvinaisenkauniselama/ if you want to check her out) - so inspiring! Your needle case is just perfect - the tiny little details you put into everything you make always amaze me! I mean those beads must be so tiny - I would lose my patience after the third one LOL! And the muted grey/blue background is perfect for the white details! Have a lovely week, Diana! xx zsuzsa #22

  11. I like the muted shade of the denim blue against the natural coloured embroidery Diana. A splash of colour isn't everything. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #6

  12. I had a busy morning shortening 3 hems on a bridesmaid’s dress and then steaming it And since lunch I’ve been for my annual diabetic eye test (although it’s 18 months since my last thanks to Covid!) so I’m just catching up with a few blogs before the football starts.
I really love your needle cover. The design and embroidery is stunning.

  13. This is beautiful. I love the fluffy bits but am unsure how you did those but they look great alongside the tiny beads. I love the shape of the flower you have used and it looks good against the strong denim.

  19. Go wherever the muse directs you, Diana! Your neutrals are so understated, delicate, subtle and beautiful. I am sure none of us object to an ongoing lack of bright colour if we can be treated to such exquisite work. Your little needle case is beautiful.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  22. Hi Diana, thank you for your return visit. I'm sorry to hear you were poorly, but pleased that you are feeling better again now. Thank you for all your good wishes, and please don't feel bad - if you'd been well enough to go on the blogs you'd have done it, I know, so absolutely no worries on that score. Everything went fine on Friday and I am doing remarkably well - a lot better than I expected. All news on my Breast Cancer Diary page on my blog, and more news this Wednesday. I'm glad you approve of my reorganising efforts in the studio! It's actually a pleasure to go in there now, which it hasn't been for many months.
