Knitting Patterns and WOYWW

 Happy New Year!
Not much to show and here's why...

After Christmas, instead of squishing the Christmas boxes back into the eaves that run along the length of our house I decided I could reduce everything by half and give myself some room to move!  I emptied everything into my studio - lots of large memory boxes, trunks and old suitcases stuffed with memorabilia from in-laws to Great grandparents! And behind all that a huge collection of paintings by my mother and her father, probably 50% of them unfinished!  I can see my desk across the workroom but can't actually get to it!  The dining table downstairs is loaded with boxes being unpacked, 'halved' and re-packed. I obviously come from a long line of hoarders!
It has been an emotional roller coaster, a few of the boxes haven't been opened for years. I came across this old knitting pattern and small Sindy doll coat that I made with my Grandmother's help (or maybe she made it with a little help from me!) - I'd forgotten all about it but it has evoked such happy memories of her teaching me how to knit and crochet.

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  1. Hi Diana, you're better than me. I know I need to do this job but just haven't got round to it. Lots of stuff was moved into the new cabin (which is not so new now!) but I still need to clear the rest out maybe you will have encouraged me. Love the little coat it's so sweet and what great memories too. Happy and creative woyww, Angela x13x

  2. OMG, I remember that pattern!! I didn’t have a Sindy, had Tressy instead (remember her?) but the clothes fitted just as well. I think an aunty knitted this….blimey, that’s like Proust’s Madeleine moment. You will feel so much better for getting rid of the stuff though, it’s a good job - I hope there are happy memories surfacing too xx

  3. That is a lovely momento of something you shared with your Grandmother. I have done some clearing out, but still boxes of stuff I don’t need, but they can stay until my husband finds them 🤣. Happy WOYWW Angela #4

  4. Afternoon Diana. Oh my - that really does take me back! I remember knitting and sewing for Sindy dolls!! I spent the other day going through loads of knitting patterns looking for a delightful matinee cardigan for a doll... failed miserably - had to take the obligatory trip to Abakhan ... oh well... had lunch out with a friend at the same time, so a good day even though they had NO matinee cardigan patterns!!
    Enjoy memory lane.
    Take care. God bless.

  5. Oh wow, how exciting to find this pattern and the coat you made all those years ago. You are holding on to this aren't you?
I know about hoarding, I do it and when I go my son's wife will order a skip and dump everything in it. She's already told me that.
I did intend to halve our Christmas decorations but couldn't. Some went to charity but I must confess not much. Once a hoarder .....
    Hugs, Neet xx
ps the Polaroid - it is a piece of card a certain measurement with a square piece stuck on it that has been decorated. It does look good though - very much as a real Polaroid. It's the first time I have heard of crafters doing them so I guess its new.

  9. I left you a message earlier but had a feeling it hadn’t posted so came back to check and it appears it hasn’t.
I just wanted to say well done for having a good sort out but if it was me probably most of it would go back in cos I couldn’t bear to part with anything.

  10. Hi there! Our January plan was to sort the attic but we still haven't started!! I think one of the reasons for delaying is knowing that there will be all sorts of memories to deal with!! It always amazes me when the simplest thing sets off a whole avalanche of memories - especially as I can hardly remember what I did yesterday!! Have a great week, stay well, stay safe, love n hugs Cindy xx #17

  12. Great way to start the year and clean some things out you don't need anymore. I am a bit of a saver myself and know how hard it is to get rid of things, I have been going through and trying to do the same thing a little at a time. That is so great how that brought back great memeories!

  13. My nan taught me to knit as well Lynn. I can remember my mum making a whole vanity case of clothes for a Sindy doll one CHristmas which was fabulous. Good luck with the sorting. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #7

  14. Oh what lovely memories are stitched into that little coat Diana. Our crafting teachers deserve a medal for giving us such skills but most of all for spending quality time with us - we will always remember them won't we. xx Jo

  15. Hi Diana- oh wow, blast from the past! My older sister had a Sindy doll, and I kicked up such a fuss my mum bought me one to shut me up. Sadly I've nothing hoarded in the attic from my parents, or grandparents. That's probably one reason I am keen to scrapbook as much as I can, for my daughter's to look back on with fond memories. Have a lovely week, Heather xx #20

  16. Oh what memories your post conjured up!! Having three girls, my Cindy (and Ken) patterns were well used....
Best of luck with the throwing and restashing.
    Take care

  17. Oh well done Diana, it’s a huge and emotional task, I know. And we’re all hoarders in one form or another! I hope there’s pleasure with all the emotion and hard work! Your Sindy was well dressed wasn’t she, your poor grandma, that sort of knitting must have been incredibly fiddly!!
