Color This Quote

I've just finished this month's challenge for Colour this Quote, over at Artists in Blogland, and the quote to inspire us was
'Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year'
                                                                    Ralph Waldo Emerson

This was quite a difficult challenge for me, as at the moment every day is most definitely NOT the best day in the year!  However, I decided to think about 'best days' and immediately holidays and childhood sprung to mind.  A lot of distress ink, Ranger dyes and rubber stamping later and I finally finished.  I stepped out of my comfort zone and moved away from my favoured cream and neutral backgrounds and palettes.  I am disappointed that the gold embossed writing along the top just didn't show up clearly in photos or scans, and it's also a bit wonky - but that's because I didn't do it on one of my 'best days'!

If only every day was a day like these!

I removed the ink with clean water on a fine brush to write the words next to the image, and it reminded me of the 'invisible' writing we used to do as kids - I think onion skins were involved somehow - anyone remember that?!

  1. The colors are definitely not your trademark (but so beautiful), but the attention to detail definitely is. The pictures are absolutely precious - the grinning little girl just makes me happy to look at her. Are they family photos? I love the embossed lines around the photos.

  2. Hi Diane: I just read your note. Shanti, Shalom and Love from my Heart into Yours. Your art Diane is beautiful. The Universe definately speaks through your hands and intensity of message. I need to now find your email subscribe...I love the lament on the top and the attribution on the bottom (the onion skins). Reminds me of the Psalms format!! Again, thankful for the connection with you. Samara

  4. I remember it as being lemon juice! .... I'm sure that was what 'Fatty' used in one of the Enid Blyton stories. I am a huge Enid Blyton fan!

It would be too cold to be dressed like that on a day like today ... it's been freezing but your pages have given me a warm glow -so nostalgic and I LOVE the colours.

  5. I love your usual neutral palette but your work looks just as good in these brighter colours. The photos you have used are perfect for the theme and I love the gold embossed writing and accents. I like to use gold in my work but as you say unfortunately it doesn't come across as good on the screen as it does in the original.

  6. This is lovely,Diana, even though it's not your usual palette. It's a wonderful depiction of happy days. I hope you're not so happy days are short lived and that you can embrace the thought of this project again.

  9. Great page! I'm sorry to hear you're not having your best days right now, hopefully that will pass soon. You've certainly found some very cheerful colors and fun techniques for this page.
