Winchester Cathedral

On a recent trip to Winchester I decided to 'do' the Cathedral - armed with my camera I had a wonderful couple of hours wandering around enjoying the colours and sculpture, and listening to the choir practicing for a wedding that was happening later in the day - quite magical.

Down in the crypt is this amazing Anthony Gormley statue of a man contemplating the water in his cupped hands - it really is quite beautiful, and it looks even more stunning in the flood water that occurs during the rainy months!

I am linking up with Mary over at Mosaic Monday and Sally over at Blue Monday this week.

  1. Hi Diana, You mosaic's are lovely. My favourite is the second one. Anthony Gormley's statue looks beautiful in those surroundings. I live close to where his statues are on Crosby Beach on Merseyside.

  4. Winchester is my favourite cathedral, without a shadow of a doubt. The sense of history can almost be touched...I love the side chapel where Sir Isaac Walton is buried and the icons right down behind the main altar. Your photographs are wonderful, quite wonderful.

I must apologise that I have sent yu nothing in return for the hare print...the simple fact is I've been quite poorly. But I shall make amends this week. I featured your hare print on last week's post...everyone loved it!

  5. Really beautiful photos! You're right about the statue -- the water makes him look so ethereal.

  6. Stunning photos and architecture! I love the statue in the water. I thought it was a really shiny floor at first. :) Wonderful mosaics. Blessings, Pamela

  8. I'm gritting my teeth and typing through my pangs of envy! How beautiful - I love seeing things through your camera lense. The statue is so breathtaking, especially in that setting and in the water like that - although I had the impression for about a split second that it looked like he was texting, which was very disturbing!

  10. You are so lucky to live so close to such beautiful architecture! And the way you photograph it really highlights the beauty. Thank you for sharing these fantastic photos!

  11. Diana, this is lovely. We visited Winchester many years ago but I haven't got any photos from that time (unless they are lurking in a box I haven't yet explored lol!) - love your cathedral photos. The Anthony Gormley sculpture is fabulous. I love his work.

Sorry not to have been around much lately - so much to do, with the house move and everything - and I just haven't had the energy to do much blog hopping!
