This week I finally finished a project that has been in the 'idea' stage for a long time - it is on the windowsill right next to my work desk - hope that counts, as I'm linking up for WOYWW this week!
I fitted an antique light bulb into an old oak candlestick and attached vellum butterflies and moths to it with little glue dots. Not my own original idea I'm afraid - there are thousands of art pieces combining light bulbs and moths around, and I know I've seen very similar to this on several occasions, but I am very pleased with the end result and would like to give credit where it's due to all those people who have given me the idea!
I also had a wonderful surprise today when Lunch Lady Jan sent me the most gorgeous tote bag in Union Jack fabric -isn't it just fabulous, and it's so beautifully made too - it was a swap for a print I sent her - I think I got the better deal!
A huge, huge THANK YOU Jan!
I think it's going to be for my knitting - it will look so smart taking my knitting and crochet around in it, although I'm also seeing it at the beach with our picnic in - although that might be wishful thinking because we had a few hours of sunshine at the weekend!
My word that's a clever thing..and a beautiful light bulb.. who knew that they would come to be looked for and admired! Brilliant idea with the moths, whoevers it was, you've done an amazing job. LOVE the fabric LLJ used..have my hall chair 'upholstered' in it.
ReplyDeleteHi Diana,
ReplyDeleteYour lamp looks beautiful, I love it! What a lovely idea. I would love to know where you got those vellum butterflies.
Such a beautiful lamp, Diana. Moths and butterflies are so important as well as handsome.
ReplyDeleteI also love your very grand tote bag....go for the knitting. You can always take your knitting on a picnic.
Hope you know who this is from. Google has messed up my profile:)

I love the idea of the light bulb in the candle stick! Even though it's been done before I think your interpretation is beautiful. Love the tote bag!
ReplyDeleteHi Diana

No, no...I got the better part of the deal!! Have I told you how much I adore my print?! Lol! It's now framed and looks amazing...I must email you the shot! I know where it's going to hang, that's a job for this weekend!
ReplyDeleteThose moths are simply beautiful...I know you're crediting other folk but your take on it is your own and it's very elegant indeed.....
Hugs, LLJ 33 xx
Love the lamp idea, thats awesome! Loads of butterflies & moths on my post this week too.Have a great week, Hugs Shaz #118 xx
ReplyDeleteWow, I absolutely love your butterfly project! I have to admit to never having seen it done before - so you're getting full credit in my eyes. The butterflies are amazing - did you buy them like that, or print them out on the vellum?
ReplyDeleteAnd what a great bag - looks perfect for knitting, as long you take it out with you on occasion so others can see it and be envious. My experience with taking bags I like to the beach, especially with a picnic inside, is that they never come back the same!
the moth light is a lovely idea and I do love your photos especially the one on the right... it is a piece of art on it's own.... Jane is right when she said you take beautiful photos, they have a very restful quality, i never get that in my pictures
ReplyDeletethanks for your comments on my wall hanging.
Are you coming to the crop next month... it would be lovely to meet up

What a beautiful project, Diana. Gorgeous subtle colours, and I love the transparency. It is reminiscent of those Victorian glass domes with butterflies mounted inside - except that yours are outside! Beautifully photographed, too, with the translucent butterfly drape.

WOW clever lady your lamp is wonderful, so unique. Lovely to see you on Karen's LACE course have you started your piece yet Diana ? X
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, thanks for your lovely comment on my blog, and for missing me! So glad you like our new kitchen design, and my latest Zentangle effort. That box was just too nice to throw away.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your good wishes for our house move. The completion of the sale is today and I do hope the rain holds off for the new owner to move in! It would be awful to have the floors all messed up with muddy feet, and everything wet! Hopefully we'll soon have some news regarding exchange of contracts on the purchase. Solicitors...

Ooh, I love your moths and lightbulb piece. It's okay that it's not your original idea, sometimes you have to draw inspiration wherever you find it! And you're right, that's a great tote bag :)
