For WOYWW this week, near my desk but not on it, is a new wool holder - well actually it's an old CD rack that has been in my loft for quite a while - I suddenly had a 'lightbulb' moment while trying to squish some new wool into an already full drawer! I am rather thrilled at having them stored in colour order now! It also means I have a home for the large linen yarn spool that's been knocking around on the floor for years!
Also, on my desk is a record of all the wools and yarns I have (still trying to decide if this demonstrates OCD tendencies!). I attach a sample of the yarn and add the manufacturer and colour code so I can hopefully get hold of more if I need it - I also do this with rubber stamp images for angel policies, paints, inks, washi tape, ribbons etc - it's often a quicker way of seeing what stash I've got rather than rummaging through boxes and drawers!
Hi Diana yeah definitely OCD tendencies but hey who cares go with it, I'm the same

I love your "new" yarn holder! It's so pretty to have the yarns in color order and it adds some eye candy to your loft! I like your method of keeping track of all you supplies. Since I think I'm OCD too it suits me perfectly!!
ReplyDeleteIt's always best to be organized!. A great idea using the cd holder It looks much more attractive with colourful balls of wool in it.than cd's.
ReplyDeleteA brilliant idea for yarn storage and so colourful on the wall. I wish I was as methodical about yarn labels etc. I often end up with a scrap that I want more of, only to find I have forgotten what it is and where it came from! x Jo #46
ReplyDeleteOCD maybe, but what a brilliant idea! A sure fire way of remembering who made your favourite yarns :-) I know for certain that it's something I could never keep up however, so I admire you for doing it.
ReplyDeleteAnd that colourful wall display is gorgeous...only trouble is I'd never want to disrupt it by using the yarn....I know, I'm weird :-)
Hugs, LLJ 41 xx
I get OCD about this kind of thing too - it's just so SATISFYING to really organize something like this, isn't it? And as a bonus your wool rack is beautiful to look at!
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, oh I love the wool storage unit - I love wool too but that side of me is dormant due to the fact we live in the tropics. Thats a great idea to catalogue you wool AND stamps....might be something I could do here as I'm always searching through drawers for that stamp. Cheers and have a great week RobynO#24
ReplyDeleteEven if it is. OCD I like it. I would put my chair in front of your wools rack and sit looking at all the lovely colours and checking the chart (giggle)
ReplyDeleteHey this is no way near OCD nope, never. LOL I love how you have done this and the display is stunning at the same time, what a delight to have in your craft area. Now this is thinking outside the box and I love it.
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW

We all need a bit of OCD, Diana! (the voice of experience!) I love your new yarn storage, and what a great idea, collecting swatches like that. I did this years ago with some samples of wool that I dyed in the microwave - something I am keen to try again but need to get new dyes as mine have all dried up. I love all your colours!
ReplyDeleteI didn't manage to get on WOYWW this week - my sister came and I was too busy, and then too tired. I haven't been in my ARTHaven all week, but managed to do a bit more of my teabag art this afternoon - details on my blog.
Have a great week.

Yeah...I'm not sure that you really need to bother about deciding.....impressively OCD I'd say!! The rack looks fab, anything stored in colour order does it fork me, even scarey yarn!!
ReplyDeleteYour yarn storage/display is fab! And what a great idea to keep a ready reference of everything you've got to work with. I still struggle with storing everything in a way that makes it easy to browse but still out of the way.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing this post, I got out my old dye sample book and found the little samples looped through punched card, and also the "Chemical Dyeing" book I bought when I was last doing this - many, many years ago! I am keen to resurrect it all, and rummaged through my dyes box and discovered it was only the stock solutions that had dried up, and I've got plenty more of the dye in its original powder form, so I can easily make up more. Some of the colours I got were so subtle! I have also learnt a bit about colour mixing and the colour wheel since those days, and am planning on making up a sample wheel from some dyed yarns.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and your lovely comment - glad you like my zentangle teabag art! They certainly are the smallest zentangles I've ever done. I am planning to scan the page once it's complete, and then use printouts for other projects - cutting them out and regrouping them, etc. Like you, I also like the unembellished teabag stains and will probably do some more of these - I've already started another sheet, this time arranged in a diamond pattern. I had no idea teabags could be such a versatile source for art work. I've got plans for machine embroidery on them, too.
No half messages came through! All is well.

Thanks for another nice comment, Diana - yes, I was delighted to find the dye powders safe and sound. It's sooo many years since I did any! When I was doing it, I actually found it quite predictable as long as one measured accurately, and it was intensely pleasing to see every bit of dye disappear into the yarn/fabric and none being wasted! I had great success dyeing small quantities in the microwave and this is what I intend doing now.

Great idea and pretty too :)

I have been trying to organize according to colors recently also! It is so hard to find the yarns I need/want when it is all scattered about. Good use of the rack. Okienurse-10
ReplyDeleteI'm super impressed with your "new" yarn holder. I've always organized by color, because color is what drives me. NOT OCD, just practical. Sorry I'm late visiting. It's been a busy life-gets-in-the-way type of week. You mentioned your machine breaking needles. I got this one that was supposed to sew 25,000 stitches, and I've put it to the test. Of course, I'm on my 6th one, but most I've broken because I did something wrong, not the needle's fault. I've never had trouble sewing through a bunch of heavy manila envelopes, at least not yet. Happy very belated WOYWW from #7.
