Decay and Repair and ICAD Cards

Once again I've had a long unintended break from blogging, or doing any arty stuff at all in fact.  I've been waiting for surgery (quite minor), and have been in some discomfort and a rather grumpy frame of mind - I'm still waiting for a date to come through but in the meantime I've felt a little enthused now that the ICAD challenge has started again over at Daisy Yellow Art.  The idea is to make a little bit of art every single day on an index card - nothing precious just whatever takes your fancy!  I must admit I've not managed to work every day but I've done about six cards over a fortnight,  so I'm quite pleased with that achievement!
Anyway, this is what is on my desk this week for WOYWW.

I'm using these index cards as a way of jotting down ideas about a long term project I'm doing on decay and repair.

  2. Welcome back, Diana! I love your ICADs. I haven't signed on to that challenge even though a friend had told me it was starting. I am doing Summer of Color again though.
Hope your surgery goes well and that it happens soon.

  5. Oh Diana, I'm so pleased to see you back! I was quite worried about you actually.....so big hugs coming your way. I always like to see your desk because you post very different artworks...there's nothing routine about what you create and I like that! Those little index cards are just the right size for experimenting :-)

  6. I agree with the others that it's great to have you back, Diana. This is a most interesting project. I love the contrast of the red thread, and the "real stitching" over the paper pattern theme. Somewhere I've got a whole stack of old index cards which as far as I remember I didn't throw away over the move, and maybe I should be using them to make art, too.

Hope your surgery happens soon, and you can get back to your normal self and end the discomfort. It's horrible having to wait, isn't it.

Thank you for your visit and your lovely enthusiastic comment about my knitting! I agree about it being real - I can't be bothered with boring plain stuff and just love mixing my colours - I've got a lot of inspiration from Kaffe Fassett in the past and have most of his books which get taken out and drooled over periodically! As for my patience, this is an ongoing project that has been picked up and put down over the months. I realised to my horror that I started it 2 years ago! We did have the house move and everything else to deal with last year so it didn't see the light of day then. I am feeling a lot more enthusiastic about it now I'm on the home stretch with the final sleeve. Then I have a couple more things to unravel and knit again - very satisfying, and it means I can reinvent the wardrobe that no longer fits me since I piled on so much weight! (Easier to unravel the knitting and reknit it than go on a diet? Definitely!!)

    Happy WOYWW,

  7. Glad you are feeling better. Sounds like a great way to get back into it, by doing small pieces each day. I have never seen work on index cards before, but love how they turned out and how you incorp the stitching etc. Take care!! Winnie#50

  8. Your cards are so special and by far the nicest index cards I have seen. I love the stitching and card textures together. Glad you are on the mend and back to blogging.

  9. Hi Diana
welcome back, its hard to concentrate when you don't feel well, I know only to well. Love the tags they are indeed little mini pieces of art, they would look great on a sewing room wall..... if only I had a dedicated sewing room, but one craft room should probably be enough.

  10. Your cards are in one of my favourite colour combinations - that rich kraft paper + cream + luscious red. Makes me want to go and make something in these colours right this minute! Love your style - the stitching really makes things pop! And thanks so much for dropping by my blog and leaving such a lovely comment.

  12. Thank you for coming back you have been missed, seriously you should keep popping in. I am impressed that you manage to commit to doing the index cards or a regular basis, because there is now way I could ever achieve that task. Great creative idea too, thanks for sharing and have a wonderful crafting week.

  13. So excited to see a post from you! Not that I've blogging or reading blogs much at all lately, so am glad I happened to be looking shortly after you posted. I love your index cards, I remember how wonderful yours were during the last ICAD too - everything you do has such lovely detail, and I'm very intrigued by this decay and repair project of yours as well!

I hope you get your surgery soon and will be feeling better.

  16. Great to see you blogging again. I hope your surgery and everything goes smoothly and you recover quickly! In the meantime, I love what you've done for ICAD. Fascinating theme, and I love how the red thread stands out so well, bringing attention to the "repairs."
