'I often think the night is more alive and more richly coloured than the day'
Vincent Van Gogh
In the summer I love my garden more at night than in the day - it's at it's most beautiful in the late evening, just as the sun has gone down. The scents are stronger and the garden is more alive with insects and moths. The shapes and outlines of the plants are more highly defined and the although the bright colours are muted the blues and whites are quite spectacular.
Here's a garden tag to celebrate the summer we are eventually going to have!
I am linking up with Jan (who is temporarily Julia) over at WOYWW this week.

I like that - we will eventually have. You reminded me of mums garden years ago when she had night scented stock along the pathways which was wonderful on a warm evening... church bells ringing.... warning - gone into nostalgia mode. Have happy week x Jackie 14
ReplyDeleteOh, us too! We often sit out on our patio until all the light is gone - it is my favourite time of day. The honeysuckle in our hedge is so fragrant and the bats whizz around and, like they've been turned off by a switch, all the birds fall silent. And you've caught all that feeling in your tags, especially the first. Just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHave emailed you about a meet up!

Your tags perfectly capture the feel of the garden in the summer evenings! I prefer evenings as well - I don't like the harsh sunlight that much. I like to open my eyes and soak up the colours when it gets darker instead squinting in strong sunlight. Love the blue and the brown! Wishing you a happy week! zsuzsa #20
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, how beautiful is your tag. I love the shades of blue you've used. Gardens can indeed be a delight in the evenings, the last few days we've actually had the weather to enjoy them. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #5 xxx
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I love the garden in the evening too and you've captured the shadows that are so lovely and soft in the twilight!
ReplyDeleteOMG Diana, the tag is stunning I love the colour palette. My Ma is on her way to visit me and told me that today its actually quite sunny and warm in London.. I told her to get prepared to sweat, it's a 40c beast here right now LOL. Cx #33
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tag. Love the colour and it does remind me of summer. I have enjoyed sitting out in the garden especially with a fire lit and watching the fireflies popping around. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week

ReplyDelete2 simply exquisite tags, love the tiny flowers cascading down the second tag...and a gorgeous shade of blue. Ruth x
ReplyDeleteNow I do understand how you feel about the evenings in the garden. Very soon the bats will start to fly around catching insects and I love to watch them as the day comes to a close. Loving your tags they're very pretty. Thanks for the visit to mine and happy woyww, Angela x 16
ReplyDeleteMost excellent tag! I love the brown in the background and the lovely blue flowers that just pop in the foreground. April #32
ReplyDeleteI have no words for how fabulous these are! The blue and brown combo is fantastic, out of this world beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTag is too small a word for something so beautiful! Gorgeous Diana.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful - and magical to hear your thoughts on the garden at dusk too. I have to be wary since I'm a mosquito magnet, so it's not a time I find very relaxing outdoors, sadly. But I'm more than happy to enjoy the dusky magic vicariously through your exceptionally lovely tags. That first one is pure perfection in every way - background, colours, dimension, and wonderfully natural composition.

Adore your lunar Summer garden tags. BJ#25
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful, Diana... You have captured the atmosphere of a summer garden at dusk, and it's lovely to see how you continue to find different uses for our favourite Heartfelt Creations flowers! So pretty. The colours are just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated WOYWW,

Oh, Diana! What beautiful tags!! You've captured a garden a twilight to perfection. The hauntingly blue hues as the sun descends from the sky. The dimension and layering are stunning. I'm so glad to have stumbled upon your blog! I'm your newest follower!v

What an evocative tag Diana.Your sense of colour and lovely restrained works.WOW!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit, Diana, and I'm glad you enjoyed my baking efforts! The macaroons are not hard to make - just like meringues really, with an extra step or too. They are melt-in-the-mouth! Eclairs are not hard to make. Choux pastry is easy as long as you've got a good stand mixer - by hand it is totally exhausting and I don't think I could do it now... As for the embossing, I do it with the pieces dry, because I think they might disintegrate if you did it wet. If you do it on a piece of fun foam it works a treat. How have you shaped your flowers, if not by embossing? Thank you for your kind words about the course - I do my best!! I've made some new friends on there, and I'm really going to miss going after the final session which is next week.

Thanks for visiting again, Diana! So glad you enjoyed our antics over the new bin! You're right - these trivial things can take on mammoth proportions sometimes... Regarding the embossing, have you got a ball embossing tool? I've got one with quite a large ball on it, and also some double-ended ones which are smaller. If you work on a piece of fun foam, you can get quite a good indentation. It works best if you use small circular movements. With flowers like the Heartfelt Creations ones, I usually emboss from the back, to make the petals convex on the front, and then turn the flower over and work the tool into the centre of the flower, which makes it concave and makes the petals stick up more. With leaves, I tend to emboss either side of the central vein, turn it over and run a fine embossing tool down the centre to mark the vein, which can reduce the embossing effect on the leaf, so I just turn it over and redo it. I've done so many I could probably do them in my sleep now! If the foam gets squashed and distorted, it goes back again if you warm it with your heat gun. It's worth persevering with this technique as it's very useful in a lot of projects. Maybe I'll do a video on it one day...
