Underwater Birthday Card

I've had a bit of an unplanned blog break but at last I'm getting back into the swing of arty crafty stuff, and to start off I made a birthday card for my brother-in-law.  He used to be a dive instructor, so I wanted something with an underwater theme!

The card below is the first attempt but I didn't like the bright blue micro-beads that I had added - they seemed a good idea right up until the moment I threw them on the wet glue!

I am joining in this week with What's On Your Work Desk Wednesday.

  3. It's good to see you back on the blog! I'm not joining in today as I have no crafting to show at all but wanted to let you know that I've been thinking about you. All is well in Wales, I'm in two bands and have a crazy non stop six weeks 😃

  4. Morning Diana. Thanks for the visit and the comments. Hope you managed to find a good definition of pergamano!! It takes a long time to do, but is just so delicate and beautiful when finished I can't resist it!!! How to shut out the world...
Your cards are beautiful - well done. I do hope you will use the first edition - it's lovely as well - just a little different..
    Take care. God bless.

  5. I love the card, though I think you're right about the blue micro beads. The white looks really clean and classy. Love the 3d work. Sarah #25

  6. Great to see you Diana! Had to smile, those 'bright' blue beads look lovely - but I totally get how they would make your teeth itch, they don't have the same understated elegance as your 'signature' work!

  8. I really like the blue. The other card is much more what I think of as your style though. Julia has it about right I think, with understated elegance. Glad to see you back x

  10. I always find it matters less what I think, after all it just needs to satisfy the paying client? There will be plenty of people who love the blue beads, and others that prefer the one without, thank goodness it takes all sorts eh? dxxx 13

  15. WOW I think that you did a great job. I am not a huge fan of blue to begin with, but the tiny blue beads look fine to me. It's funny how we work on something and add the finishing touch and stand back and think, and think, we can be our own worse critic. You already know that you always amaze me. I am doing nothing but trying to stay warm ;)

  17. Oh Diana... I was only thinking about you yesterday and wondering where you were, and was missing you! So glad to see you back, and with such a wonderful project. I always love anything with a sea theme and you've really brought this one off. Your use of the broken blue and white china is masterful, and all against such a well-chosen background. It's just great. I'm with you on the subject of the blue beads!

Thank you so much for your really lovely comment and your kind words. Yes, it was quite an ordeal, but this week I've really started to feel better at last! It's been a long haul. I've got to have further surgery but it shouldn't be so bad. I am so happy to feel well enough to start making art again and I've been having fun using my iPad for tangling - so glad you like my latest ones - the "Paradise Garden" one is my favourite too - the oriental theme was deliberate. I can do this from the comfort of the recliner. As for the Infusions, I absolutely adore them and can't wait to do more with them - if you look further back in my blog you will see that I've used them in my mini-album about our walk in the woods in the summer - several different uses of them in there. I've never come across a material that is so versatile and that produces such radically different results according to how it's used.

People all have different health problems and one can't really compare one person's suffering with another's - all are valid! We just deal with what gets thrown at us and each person's experience is unique, and at different times our threshold for coping with things can vary greatly, too. I do hope that whatever your problem has been, that you will soon be better and gain something from it. I think it's this part that helps me deal with things in the way that I do.

It is very, very good to see you back in Blogland again! You have been missed.

  25. Its lovely to see your post Diana. I loved the concept for your card, its really beautiful the way you put all the elements together so creatively. I think I agree the slightly more understated white version works best, but I would have been happy to receive either. I hope life is getting back to some balance for you. Elaine x
