In my tidying and re-organising frenzy over the last few weeks I have been discovering stash that I had thought lost or had completely forgotten about. Having unexpectedly come across a packet of Yupo paper I remembered how enjoyable Alcohol Inks can be, so decided to have a little play with them.
I know they are usually beautifully vibrant and rich in colour but I am still in a 'muted' frame of mind and enjoying late evenings in my garden - so my tags are along this theme.
I accidentally discovered that if I add blending solution to the stamped image and then rub it off gently I get a wonderfully faded image, so I was able to layer them and achieve more of a feel of insects at dusk.
Wow! Your tags ate beautiful! Please may I ask what stamp sets those images are from?

Morning Diana, isn't it wonderful when we find such beautiful stash.
ReplyDeleteThe solution really does give a vintage look fading them into the background so beautifully. Delightful creations as always, always so lovely to visit.
Creative wishes & Thank you for sharing WOYWW Tracey #5
I mentioned to my niece yesterday while we were crafting that I was in the throws of getting rid of a lot of my craft stuff. No you mustn’t, it’s all wonderful, why would you she cried. Guess that answers that one then Diana heehee. Although I am overloaded with it all.
ReplyDeleteI can envision you enjoying making those lovely muted tags. How I wish you lived next door, what times we would have.
Lynn xx
Adore those tags - I love alcohol inks and you've made them sing!
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW :)

Happy WOYWW. Now, I bought some of that paper last year (cannot remember which project it was intended for!), but it is still in my cupboard. Will do some investigation to see what techniques I could do. Alcohol inks - one of my very first purchases from QVC back in 2004 I think. It was a Tim Holtz (remember when he used to do the shows himself!) special kit, and I am still using those very inks. Your tags are beautiful. Ali x #16
ReplyDeleteI've used alcohol inks quite a bit on and off in the past, but never to such great effect as this. For me they've never been synonymous with muted colours, and I just love your results. I am not sure what yupo paper is. Can you get this effect with any normal shiny paper? As for old stash, I am now extremely reluctant to get rid of anything! We got rid of loads of Mum's stuff recently and suddenly I found a use for several things. You just never know when you'll want something, even if it's for a purpose for which it was never designed! This week I was soooo glad I hadn't got rid of her big iron casserole, which I hadn't used, and now I am definitely using it.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your return visit, Diana. Sourdough is resistant starch and not like normal bread, and also full of so many useful nutrients. Even people who are non-coeliac yqw= (oops - that was Ruby walking across my keyboard!!!) gluten intolerant can do well on sourdough. It's easier to digest than normal bread and has a lower GI and more protein-rich. I'm so glad you like my scarf. I'm needle-felting again tonight. I don't find it too difficult but it is time-consuming. However, when I'm resting on the recliner that's no big deal! As for kitties' minds, Ruby has decided tonight, after being really stand-off-ish with me for ages, to be really affectionate and is all over me (and my laptop)!! I don't know what brought that on.

Thanks for getting back to me, Diana - not only is sourdough full of healthy benefits, it's also much more delicious than regular bread! We had some ordinary wholemeal last night and I said to my hubby that although it was good bread, it wasn't a patch on the sourdough for texture and flavour. If you are interested in making your own (bought is fearfully expensive because of the skill and time involved) I can send you some very useful links. Thank you for the info about the yupo paper. I save fliers and junk mail and use that for alcohol inks and it works fine! I've never heard of alcohol lift-ink and really look forward to seeing your experiments with that - your results so far with the alcohol inks are stunning. Have fun with it!

That's twice I've seen Yupo paper mentioned - what is it exactly? Am loving the muted tones and graduated textures of the tags, so beautiful.

Beautiful tags Diana, I hadn't thought of using more muted tones of alcohol ink. Thanks for visiting already. Sarah #19
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your tags! You are right, they give that insect in the evening feeling! My favourite is the bluey/purpley one with the insects in a vertical row - I guess it meets my need for order! LOL! Have a great week, and thanks for your visit! Lindart #24
ReplyDeleteWow, what a happy discovery with the blending solution! Jeepers it looks a marvellous effect. Love to know that youre enjoying evenings in the garden...mine’s a bit of a building site at this point, but I am happy to pick my way through it all if there’s a patch of sun to sit in!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful discovery from Pinterest. I have never come across your blog before but it is beautiful and I will certainly be back again. These tags are exquisite.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.
