Birthday Cards for the Men of the Family

This is a birthday-heavy time of year for my family so here are a couple of cards I had to make recently.  Both needed to incorporate hard cash!

This one was for my nephew who is very keen on fishing - alochol inks were used for the background and I found on YouTube how to fold the money into an origami fish.  I then placed it inside the card with low tack tape so the note wasn't damaged.

For this next one I had a go at trying to create a rusty finish on a piece of card and then die cut the pocket, tag and stars - money was stuffed into the wallet with the gift tag.  The faux enamel label around it and the little plaque on the tag were both done using a technique by the super-talented Alison Bomber - here's a link to her tutorial on the Paper Artsy blog.

I'm linking up with Julia this week, over at WOYWW

  1. Oh Diana what a clever find that fish folding is, I'm scared to investigate this any further as I know it will be tea time before I get offline and there's so much for me to try and fit in today hee hee!! That rusty finish is amazing, I love anything like this and have a project on the go that is in need of attention to complete asap but the non messy stuff seems to keep me away.
Beautiful sights to see again today, all cherished and adored!!
Thank you for sharing WoywW you know I love it all. Hugs Tracey #7 xx
P.S I'll be glad when May arrives and gives me a couple of months to recover from the mass of family birthdays :)

  10. What a super job you have made of that rusting technique. Love all things rusty - something I was taught by the great Andy Skinner - and I suspect Alison's technique is very similar if not the same.
Love the fish card - so appropriate for someone in March, especially if they fall into the range of dates for Pisces. Beautiful colours.

  17. What amazing cards Diana. I particularly love the idea of the origami bank note to match the fish card. In answer to your question, it was Barbara Gray's birthday yesterday. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #3

  18. Hi Diana! Two gorgeous cards! I love the fish card, the blues are deep and wonderful, and the tag card was inspired - would be great as a holder for a gift card as well! I haven't used micro beads for years, they look awesome on this card! Have a great week, Lindart #26
