I decided to have a little play at book-binding this week as I wanted a notebook for sketching and jotting down ideas about moths and other insects. I was quite pleased with how neat the binding was, as I am usually rather haphazard with where I make my holes, often piercing them too close together despite marking them out.
Whilst decorating the front of the book I forgot I'd used olive green thread for the binding and it doesn't really match the decoration, but I don't think it's too noticeable and perhaps I'm being a bit pernickety!
I am sharing this over at Julia's WOYWW and the
Mini Album Makers Challenge.
Update: I was so pleased to make the Top 5 this month - thank you to the team from the Mini Album Makers Challenge.

Hi Diana, that is truly gorgeous, and I'm sure the thread does actually work well, as it's a nature theme. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #2 X
ReplyDeleteI am not the tiniest bit surprised at how neat and gorgeous your book is - all your work is gorgeous! Enjoy filling it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful book. Just perfect for that purpose. I can see blood being spilled over it though. Have a lovely day. xxx Maggie (Silvercrafter) #8
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree with you slightly Diana, I actually love the green thread, I think it is just perfect for the theme of your beautiful little book! I love how you decorated the cover, the beetle is stunning too! Thanks so much for joining in with us at Mini Album Makers this month. Anne xx
ReplyDeleteI, too, love the olive thread, it goes very well with the 'nature' colours of the cover. It's a beautiful little journal! Happy woyww and a hug from Holland. Marit #18
ReplyDeleteThis is totally a work of art! Just lovely! Happy WOYWW! Glenda #19
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous little book, Diana! As you know, I'm not a fan of creepy crawlies but when I see yours I never feel quite the same! Thank you for your visit a while back and sorry to be so long replying. I've got my speaking voice back now, but not my singing one (apart from a valiant effort on Sunday which you can read about on my blog - really funny it was!) and the tooth problem should be sorted finally tomorrow. If you visit, I hope you can see the photos on my blog post because loads of people are reporting that they can't. Wretched google up to its tricks again... I'm so fed up with them!!!

Oh Diana, it is so beautiful, and the green thread kind of fits with the beetle and also the nature theme . It is a gorgeous cover you created , -love the background stamping and the orange paper stamps - you will so enjoy opening this up and add notes and ideas . Hugs, Dorthe
ReplyDeleteActually I think that the olive green thread goes really well with the orange on the cover Diana. Love the beetles (Tim Holtz Entomology set?) Happy WOYWW. Sarah #5
ReplyDeleteI think the green thread works really well and I love the details on the cover. Stunning. Thanks for sharing. Happy WOYWW and have a lovely week. With love & God Bless. Caro xxx (#26)
ReplyDeletewhat a great book! I'd be more than happy with it.. I take no credit for the white highlighting on the card, as it had been done on the reference sheet that the stamps were mounted on...but it is very effective, isn't it! Helen #3
ReplyDeleteThat is just beautiful. I love the colours you have used and the images - perfect for the usage of the book. As for the green binding - well, nature is green, spring is when things begin to turn green and I think the binding looks just fabulous!
ReplyDeleteNow when are you making them to sell?

ReplyDeleteHi Diana, as many others have commented, you have created a beautiful notebook, and yes you are being pernickety (I love that word). The green thread suits the notebook. Thanks for stopping by earlier, I did make a second card ... just in case lol! Have a lovely week, hugs Heather xx #11

ReplyDeleteWell done on making such a beautiful notebook Diana. I’m going to pop over to the link you provided and see what’s happening over there.
ReplyDeleteHave fun filling the pages, I know they will all be beautiful. Hope you will show us

Persnickety? I should say! a beautiful notebook. I would be pulling it out of my bag at random cafe tables just to show off, never mind if I’d had any sort of spark of inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteHi Diana. I make no excuse for being late, just been busy trying to get everything sorted after the trip away. Why is there so much to do when you get back.....think I need a holiday Lol! Anyway I am loving your note book and the cover is great and reminds me that I have a load of postage stamps that I should do something with. Happy belated woyww, Angela x20x
ReplyDeleteNow that is just beautiful. love how the insects, stamps, butterflies and the green thread all come together.
ReplyDeleteHoly beetles Batman! This is truly fabulous (and I love the green thread)!! Where did you get that cool beetle on the cover? Now I'm inspired to go do a bug book! Thanks for sharing this on the Mini Album Makers site!
ReplyDelete~Heather
Thanks so much Heather, the beetle was cut out of an old postage stamp.
DeleteWhat a lovely combination of colours/ items and artwork - I love the colour scheme - even the green! xx Jo
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated WOYWW and thanks for your earlier visit to my blog. A beautiful little notebook. I have made a few journals in the past, and enjoyed the stitching (and have kept my box of stitching supplies just in case I feel the urge to make another one). Ali x #15
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, thank you for your visit - as far as I know I haven't run out of any photo limits - you can have as many as you want on Google Photos which is where they are coming from on my blog, apparently. It's a mystery. I've posted a query on a forum about Blogger and Open Live Writer and I'll have to wait and see if anyone replies. In the meantime, I can only hope that the problem will resolve itself. I can see the photos OK but it seems that nobody else can, or at least, not all of them - which is in itself mysterious. The backwards knitting is really fun to do! Give it a go!

Oh how lovely - congratulations on your Top 5 at MAM, and I'm very happy for me that you won a spot because it meant I caught this utterly gorgeous little album. I love the creatures on the cover, and how those warm blood-orange reds glow against the soft grey neutrals. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!
