Start of the Birthday Card Season!

It's that time of year again - most of my family and friends have birthdays in October, so here is the first one I made for my nephew who has just turned 18.
He's keen on Dungeons and Dragons so I made a fancy dice to hold the
rolled up money he was being given.
As it turned out the dice looked ridiculously big on the card so I chopped the top off it and just used that!

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  1. That is a fantastic card, I love all the details - you are so clever. I laughed at the dice because my eldest boy is a D&D fan and has a whole bag full of different shapes and sized dies. I'm sure your nephew was made up with it all.

  5. So unique and creative - I was looking for the dice - then I spotted it LOL! I guess it must be a special type of D&D dice? All the elements work so well together! Happy birthday to your nephew - mine turned 18 too this year and I couldn't believe it that he is now supposed to be an adult - and my son just two years behind him - scary! Happy WOYWW! xx zsuzsa #22

  6. Hi Diana. What a card! You are just so very creative - well done. Had to laugh at the idea of simply chopping the top off the dice to make it fit the card better...
    Take care. God bless.

    1. Thanks so much Angela - the wooden thing is a piece of driftwood with sealing wax poured onto it and stamped, and some old gold thread wrapped round it.

  16. I have "the pen is mightier than the sword" running through my mind as I look at this wonderful card - I think it's proabably the weaponry and the nibs (and the quotes about pens and swords I've just put on my new post - been using pens for line and wash, you see!) The wax blobs and seal are magical. It's a brilliant design for someone wrapped up in the fantasy world, and it's a beautiful card in its own right.

  17. What a fantastic card, Diana. I just love the limited palette and all the scrumptious texture! Thank you for visiting, and for your kind words about my tiny carpets. When I did the random background on the other one I thought it looked awful, too, until I'd filled in the main colour - amazing how it brings cohesion to the whole design in the end! I think it's a mistake to consign stuff to the bin (actually, if you saw the state of my studio at the moment you would see that I constantly live up to that sentiment!!) - you know what they say about mixed media art - there are no mistakes, just more layers! It's amazing what you can get away with if you think you've made a mistake - just slap on another layer!

I find it hard to believe I actually looked like that a few years ago. It proves it can be done - if I can do it, anybody can! These days it isn't even any sort of effort because with the whole-food plant-based lifestyle, you can eat more and weigh less!

The kitties have honours degrees from the University of CATmandu in relaxing!!

    Happy belated WOYWW,
