A Tidy Desk and WOYWW

It's been an unproductive week craft wise but I have finished sorting through my textiles and pretty much fitted them into the space available - now that's something that doesn't happen very often!  This shelf unit is at the end of my desk where a large trunk of fabric used to stand with a vintage suitcase and decorative baskets on top of it.  Consequently the trunk never got opened as it was such a faff.  This doesn't look as stylish as the trunk but is much more user friendly!  Each box is labelled and despite having a massive clear out you can still see that two large pieces of fabric wouldn't fit anywhere so are wedged around the boxes (top left cube) and the lid won't properly fit on the decorative box (top right cube) as it is stuffed to capacity!  However it's hugely better than it was so I'm happy!!  The tall pile of plastic boxes next to the shelf unit are all for different ongoing projects.

And here's the most boring desk photo you'll see today!  You can see the A1 cutting board and where it  buckled along one edge due to heating something with the heat tool and forgetting to use the heat board - I turned it around and then did exactly the same thing to the other edge - soooooo annoying!

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  1. I have storage envy! No matter how often I tidy, it never stays that way….sigh. Ah well, worse things happen at sea. I have had two cutting mats warp on me now, the last time was when my son’s PC buckled it when he was working from home. You’d think they’d be tougher than that! Have a good week xx

  2. Your storage looks so elegant, and in next to no time you will have used some of the fabric and voila! the lids will fit.
I am wondering what you have done with that vintage suitcase - ~I do hope you have found an alternative use and place for it.
Have a lovely day - a great week.

  3. It’s so nice to see your workroom Diana, it’s a beautiful space. Your desk top reminds me of my own with the pots of pencils and basket of scissors. I’d be quite happy to come and keep you company.

  4. OOh Diana, the inner temple! a what a fab and calm space you’ve made. Although the story of the cutting mat…you are so not alone! The light is great on your desk too, a huge big important thing for someone like you that does such teeny tiny delicates! I’m utterly intrigued by the projects in the plastic boxes, it makes me rub my hands in glee in anticipation!

  5. Oh I am so glad it's not just me recounting their crafty little accidents today! These things happen don't they. I don't get too stressed over it and, like you - I am sure it will happen again. I love your storage - I have similar but much of mine is filled with Tilly Tea Dance stock and equipment - not sure why but I am always hopeful that we will be able to craft together again soon. xx Jo

  9. that is incredibly beautiful storage. Not only is it functional, it is beautiful, too. I would LOVE to craft in your beautiful space. My large mat is in the basement and my heat tool won't travel that far, or I might have a warped mat, too. I had it happen to me on my guillotine cutter, though. Happy WOYWW from # 6.

  16. Good morning, Diana. I think I tie you for the cleanest desk surface. Seems like lots of us are in a 'clearing out' mood. My fabric wouldn't begin to fit there. That's why they're all in tubs in my warehouse until i have time to sort through them. Creative Blessings! Kelly #25

  18. What a lovely studio you've got, Diana - so nice to see where you do all your wonderful creating! The light looks excellent in there. I love the new storage unit which I am sure will enable you to be more productive. I've got some old leather suitcases full of lace and trimmings - a real rummage fest but that's how I like it! They look so stylish and vintage. Re your cutting mat, been there, done that, got the teapot, broken the mug!! My hubby has 2 of my old warped mats and the other one is on my office desk. All my heating work (apart from regular crafty stuff which is safe on the Tim Holtz glass media mat) is now done on my ultra-heat proof Prespahn mica mats in the studio which I bought when I finally learnt the lesson about warping cutting mats!

Thank you for your visit and for all your kind thoughts. I am continuing to do extremely well post-op but my ever-generous hubby has unfortunately given me his horrible throat bug and I'm feeling quite poorly with that at the mmoment.

More stash arrived today - the ink pads I was waiting for. I can't wait to get stuck in with it all. My newly tidied studio is like a symbol of a new start which I hope will be the case after next Thursday when I have my post-op appointment and get the biopsy results. Hopefully no further surgery and/or chemo will be required. I'm not thinking too far ahead on that score.

So glad you liked the design for the Pakistani card. It's nearly complete now, and the colours are super-vibrant. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. Today I added lots of sparkle and shimmer.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  20. Hi Diana, thanks for your visit! I laughed when I read what you wrote about the Prespahn mats - I can imagine them looking at you and saying "Na-na-na-naaaa na!" I think there is probably a secret place where all the warped mats in the world go to die, like the elephants. My hubby said he cut one of mine into 4 pieces and finds them all useful in the workshop. What annoys me is that the manufacturers of those non-stick craft mats always say they are "heat proof" (i.e. they don't melt when you heat them) but they never tell you that they conduct heat to whatever is underneath and offer no protection, i.e. the usual cutting mat! That's how I warped some of mine. Also I warped one by putting my melt pot on it and the heat radiated downwards. Prespahn is definitely the way to go! Nothing warps those babies.

Unfortunately the throat bug has turned into a full-blown cold and yesterday I felt absolutely horrible and feverish (cancer's a doddle in comparison!!). This a.m. slightly better, and hopefully I'll be over it by Thurs. for my hospital appointment. My hubby snuffled and coughed a bit for 2 or 3 days and that was it. Makes you sick, doesn't it...

I've nearly finished the Pakistani card. It is full of shimmer and sparkle now! I'm super-thrilled with how it's turned out, and really want to do some more painting like this. I can't wait to start using all my new stash - I've got to make a birthday card and another thank you card this week and will probably break into some of it.
