Making the Most of the Sunshine

I have been meaning to get some Cyanotype printing done all summer to
replenish my stocks for collage and card making.  Yesterday it suddenly dawned on me as we head towards autumn that I ought to get on with it - the results are better when the sun is at it's highest and strongest, ideally the middle of a summer's day.
My desk yesterday afternoon was the garden bench and the kitchen sink - I just remembered in time to take some photos!

Out in the sun 'cooking'!

Foliage removed and ready to rinse

Just starting to turn blue in the bowl of water - the stripes are the shadows of the sun coming through the kitchen blinds!

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  1. I've never tried this, but it looks impressive - and certainly the weather this week would be perfect. Happy WOYWW Helen #4

  2. Hi Diana, thanks for your earlier visit. Not sure what cyanotypes are but at least you’ve chosen a good week for it! I always like blues and greens, and cyan!
    Take care and happy WOYWW

  3. I love these prints and I think I can remember the ones you did before. I must say I do like the effect before you rinse as well, but then I like brown and blue together.
I've never attempted these but would love to - guess I may have left it too late now. I will have to pacify myself enjoying your pictures which are lovely.

  4. I had never heard of this but very lovely. So interesting. Thanks for popping by. The card you admired was inspired by someone far more talented than me, I did twezk it a little though. Anne x 17

  8. Oh Diana, how I love your cyanotype pictures! I bought some of the stuff to do it at a craft show some time ago but have never got round to trying it. I remember so well your stunning moonlit garden series which often featured it. I must go back and revisit those.

Thank you for visiting, and for your good wishes about my treatment. I'm feeling less fatigued today (although it comes and goes) but the skin under my breast is really red and sore now so I'm putting loads of moisturiser on it which is helping somewhat. I can expect it to get worse before it gets better because they say the effects peak a fortnight after treatment ends. Just another step along the journey.

I'm glad you liked the card I made for the staff, and also this week's kitty input! They do coordinate rather well with the kitty throw, don't they! And you are absolutely right - they have my hubby exactly where they want him - completely wrapped round their littlet claw! The stamp storage project is ongoing - it's going to take me a while to complete it as I've got quite a lot and they are in a total muddle. They will be much easier to use once they are organised, though.

    Happy WOYWW,

  9. Wow, good use of the sun! It’s been very strong here too, I couldn’t garden in it, too hot for me (Eskimo blood runs in my veins. I shall look forward to seeing how you use the prints in the future, something gorgeous knowing you!!

  10. Interesting technique, probably not too many sunny days left this year. Have a great week Angela #7

  11. They're lovely sun prints. We have a forecast of "delightful" weather for the weekend (not sure I've ever seen that before on Accuweather) so I'll definitely be finding a way to make the most of it (though I'm not equipped for this, so it'll probably just be a good book in a sunny spot!).

  12. I’ve yet to try this technique, it’s so effective. Some of the ladies in my no rules textile society have done it and there is an artist in Cumbria that I follow called Witchmountain and that is the basis of her work.
Lovely to see Diana. Ill get myself a kit then I’ll be one step nearer doing it haha

  13. It’s still magic, however many times I see it! a glad you thought of it, I think we’re all working to take advantage of these amazing sunny days, perhaps not so creatively though….I washed the dressing gowns in preparation for hibernating!!

  16. not completely sure what Cyanotype printing is, but it looks cool. hand is doing ok only took some paracetamol on the day of the procedure. it's sore if i try to use it but surgeon said i can only gently mobilise the digits and the thumb in the interim but there is no heavy lifting for now. till i see him on 4th Oct. struggling to keep dressing in place. was told NOT to remove it just to add to it. think my efforts will be on display next wed lol. bj#13
