5 Minute Collages and WOYWW

This week I've been sorting through art and craft books - some need to go but I have a few that I am keen to read and use as inspiration, so to start me off I have been following the prompts in The Collage Workbook by Randel Plowman.  The first task was to make some 5 minute collages - quite difficult for me as I work very slowly!  However I gathered 'stuff' together - colours that are out of my comfort zone, ephemera that I don't know why I've been keeping, and washi tapes that haven't seen the light of day for years.  I gave myself 20 minutes to make all 4 rather than work on one at a time - I am half way through and should be able to  complete the other 10 minutes by the end of today!

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  1. Well done on colours out of your comfort zone, I actually love those colours and sue washi fairly often it’s great in die cuts, well done especially on setting yourself a challenge. Thanks for Sharing, God bless and keep you safe, and all those you love, prayer hugs Shaz in Oz.x

  2. That's a lovely way to challenge yourself and use up some of those hoarded bits and bobs that otherwise don't see the light of day. I'm enjoying the halfway stage... and looking forward to more.

  3. Happy WOYWW. I used to do a daily challenge of creating something in 15 minutes. I kept them all in a journal and really need to get back to that. Amazing what can be done in a short time without thinking too much. I have some washi tape that I never use, perhaps I will start with that. Ali x #14

  4. The way I use washi tape it will be here long after I am gone. I tear it into little strips with ragged edges so don't use an awful lot but I am attracted to it and have bought lots.
I am no good with a timed slot to create, it takes me such an age to think up what I am going to do - like half a day in some cases, so I am well impressed with you. But then you always create beautiful work.

  6. It’s a good challenge to make you use up stash! I really like the colours you’ve chosen to use, very vintage looking. Having a sort out is beneficial too, making space and repurposing what you don’t use. Have fun!

  8. The only way I could convince myself to get rid of some of my art books is to make room for others - and even then I would find it easier to just get another bookshelf! This sounds like a good challenge - and really once you gathered your "stuff" the hard part is done - then you can just go crazy sticking - and who doesn't like sticking, hey? As long as you don't start second guessing you choices LOL - then it could take hours. Enjoy your day, Diana! xx zsuzsa #17

  9. I know you can use washi tape for anything and everything, but I am always unsure when I try and use it. I think gathering the stuff together first is a good idea, might try that out. Happy WOYWW Angela #9

  10. Looks like I'm not the only one that's trying to "Use it or Lose it". I have bought so many books in the past that I've grown out of (that's the only way I can put it really) but it is hard to let them go. I'm loving your collages, I always over think things I know and that's why it takes me too long to make things. I've found sometimes if I just play for a while without thinking how I will use the finished piece that helps which I guess is why I like making the Masterboards. I just play with the techniques but I've not made any recently as I've been trying to use up other stuff so we'll see. hanks for the visit to mine too. Hugs and wishes for a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x13x

  11. I love washi tape and have quite a few. I also have been going through things I have not used for years and they are going out as well, must be the time for it,
The test was negative so I am happy,

  12. I'm not really into washi tape...or maybe I am, but the tape I have I'm not really happy with...its more like coloured sticky tape and looks ok on parcels! Your washi tapes looks rather nice, so if I can get the right stuff, well.... crafty-ness will be endless fun! Happy WOYWW? Keep Crafting! Stay Safe. ((Lyn))#18

  20. Lovely collages, Diana, and I love the subtle pastel shades. I haven't got any washi tape and wouldn't really know what to do with it! Thank you for your vist. I am so glad you liked my cards. I'm in two minds about card making because if there's a really special one to be made, I do enjoy it once I get into it - these are the ones that take me a week to make haha! If it's for a special recipient, I enjoy thinking of them while making it, as you say. It's the run of the mill ones that always took me too long because I wasn't organised, and they were more of a chore than a delight. I do have mixed feelings about card making in general, but since getting more organised, I am looking on making anonymous cards as an exercise in different techniques that just happen to end up as cards, if that makes sense! If they spark joy in someone, so much the better! The kitties send purrs and say they are enjoying snuggling up more now it's colder. They still like going out to play in the garden, though. I am thrilled with the foiling machine - I've wanted to do foiling for such a long time. I'm now working on trying to make my hot foiling plates more versatile by making cutting files from them and also digital stamps. I sometimes wish I had a laser printer so I could do that alternative foiling method with the laminator. I like to have different approaches to things.

    Happy belated WOYWW,
