I have been on a mission to read some of my many art and craft books and take inspiration from them! So I have recently been making collages following the prompts from the Collage Workbook by Randel Plowman.
These four were my first challenge - to make some small 5 minute collages.
I used some old wine labels as the starting point and was very careful to stop when I reached the allotted time. This was difficult to do given my propensity for often over egging the creative cake!
The second challenge was to make a collage using layers of white (no time limits any more I'm glad to say).
I'm not sure if it's finished but I feel if I add anything more I'll regret it!
And a shot of an unusually (for me) very untidy desk - collage scraps are currently scattered everywhere - they are usually stored in folders depending on colour or subject, but they have got a little out of control! And I have treated myself to three new soft rubber brayers - they are homeless at the moment so a little bit of re-arranging is needed to squeeze them into a drawer somewhere!
I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW
Well, I loved what you’ve done with the challenges - but I would find it difficult to follow the rules (no surprise there!) and would like to suggest that if you feel the need to go over the allotted time or amount of stash used, then just do it!! Art Rebel!!

It's good to follow a theme and I love the labels set. The little brayer looks a useful tool - I think I had one once - lino printing etc comes to mind. I wonder where I put it!! xx Jo
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the white collage in particular, although the wine label ones are cool too Diana. Can't wait to see more. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #5
ReplyDeleteI love your collages. I wonder what the objective is of limiting your time. If it’s to help people stop when finished and you know you want to add more, then I’d carry on. They’re beautiful anyway, especially the wine labels.
ReplyDeleteTake care and happy WOYWW

Five minnute challenges?? I'd never manage that! Time I rhink about what to do, find stuff to glue...find glue...find scissors not stuck up with glue...it'll be next Tuesday! On a wizz around today, as it took me ages to get into Julia's, and the link might close and lock me out again! Stay Safe, Keep on Crafting! Happy WOYWW!? ((Lyn))#20
ReplyDeleteGreat collages. Rules and time limits are not my favourite things, but it does allow you to focus more. Angela#9
ReplyDeleteYou must drink wines because you like the labels - only kidding but the labels are gorgeous, especially 1, 3 and 4. I don't get to choose wine because I would choose it by label and hang what it tasted like but then it's wasted on me anyway. Love the collages but 5 minutes is not much time if it includes fussy cutting. The white one is gorgeous but again quite difficult to stick to just white me thinks.

The wine labels are gorgeous as a starting point for the collage. I've just bought a new collage book myself by Maria Rivans it's called Extraordinary Things to Cut out and Collage. I fancied getting one of my Art Journals out again and I thought this might give me some inspiration to get started. The projects are similar to the ones I used to do with the children at school based on the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo so we'll see! Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x15x
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit. Love your collages ! I belong to a group and Collaging is not my easiest fun..some of the gals so outstanding piecesI think my issue is organizing the papers I've just toooooooooooo many. I am a good VIEWER !!! Have a great week
ReplyDeleteSuper collages, so vintage! I love the white one as well, although I would have to restrain myself in a straight jacket so as not to add some colour in there, miserably failing the challenge! (I have a problem with white space LOL - even though I love the look - something I've been struggling for years - and to leave everything white would be killing me!) Thanks for your visit - I agree about Insta being impersonal (which is why I will never give up my blog) but there's a very active art community there and like you said, some artists have moved there exclusively and I don't want to miss out. I figure I can have the best of both worlds by being on both platforms. Have a lovely week! xx zsuzsa #18
ReplyDeleteyour challenges are going really well, I love the results. I look forward to seeing if you get the Seth stamps! (I restricted myself to only one of his new sets....) Have a great week. Helen #3
ReplyDeleteYour collages are wonderful, Diana (I wouldn't expect anything else!!) - I love your French vibe. The white one is stunning too. Your desk looks super-tidy compared with how mine looked yesterday! It got so bad I couldn't find anything and wasted a lot of time looking. I am not the tidiest worker, I'm afraid - the creative buzz takes over and I don't want to waste any time putting things away!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit. I'm so glad you liked my cards. I liked the autumnal one best as well. I've got plenty of ideas for developing the patchwork theme, especially as my new TH inks arrived today and I can't wait to get stuck into the Royal Purple which is a fabulous colour! Thank you for your good wishes regarding our health. Lovely to get discharged from oncology after only a few short months - I was involved for a year with my first cancer. Everyone has been so kind at the hospital. Hoping my hubby will get good news too.
Lily is a lazy lump. She comes up and settles down immediately - her little head goes down and she's out for the count! Her sister, on the other hand, is a restless little soul and wanders about and doesn't settle nearly as quickly. I've got them both squashed up on my legs as I type this - no room on my actual lap with the laptop in place! Together they weigh over a stone, but lovely and warm! I definitely get trapped and my hubby has to do things for me because heaven forbid that I should disturb them! I haven't got to the stage that my hubby has reached though, sitting on the floor because his chair is occupied! Spoilt kitties? Totally over-indulged and we are firmly established as their slaves, I'm afraid. Such is life.
Happy WOYWW,

these are just fabulous, I too have been trying to do a bit of collage here and there, still need work but fun to do!
ReplyDeleteI did a zoom drawing workshop a while ago and we had to do 30 second drawings, one minute ones and five minute. It was interesting if nothing else.
ReplyDeleteI like how you’ve challenged yourself and stuck to the brief. It’s good to be disciplined now and again. Heehee I’m far from it. I’d do better if I stuck to focusing on one thing at once.
Well done Diana, what’s your next challenge I wonder

I like the white on white collage page very much and your wine label ones are lovely!
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW!
Stay safe and keep well!

Your collages look great and I'm especially in love with the white one: marvelous! Thanks for visiting my desk the other day, have a great weekend! Love from Holland. Marit #19
ReplyDeleteWell look at you with a small scattering of stuff on your desk, I love it! I expect by now it’s positively clean again, just to stop your teeth itching! I just admit Diana, a five minute time limit is incredibly fast isn’t it, it’s a fraction of the time I spend faffing and trying different positions for the images - you did do well! I’m almost breaking into a sweat on your behalf. But then, the coooool white, my goodness your gear changes are impressive!
ReplyDeleteLove the challenges. Have a great weekend!

At least there was not time limit on the white one, that could have been difficult. Happy belated WOYWW! October was a busy month, still catching up. Elle #6 this week
