Darning Looby Loo!

Since last joining in on the desks I have been continuing my mission to halve the 'treasures' in my eaves and I must say it's been going very well.  I still can't get across my studio floor to my desk but that's because it's covered in re-packed boxes, all beautifully labelled and waiting to go back in to the eaves (back ache allowing!).  I have more than achieved my goal of halving it, and I have uncovered some long lost friends that need a little attention!

My dear Looby Loo was knitted for me by mum and went everywhere with me! One of my earliest memories is settling down with her to watch Andy Pandy on Watch with Mother (anyone remember that?).  I started to give her a gentle wash and as I did so several tiny moth holes turned into rather large gaping and frayed holes.  She has been sitting by my armchair waiting to be mended for most of the week but to be honest I'm feeling rather nervous about how to go about it.  The Repair Shop's Teddy Bear ladies make it look so easy!!

I'm joining in with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  1. Oh Diana I do remember Watch with Mother and Andy Pandy. Reading about your repair work on Looby Loo made me think I was sat watching an episode of The Repair Shop. Such wonderful memories

  2. Now it is obvious where you get your talent from. Looby Loo is beautiful, those eyes are gorgeous and I love her undies with the rolled tops.
Yes, I remember Andy Pandy but sitting with my son watching it - that memory makes me realise just how old I am. Oh dear.
Take care and keep safe and well
    Hugs, Neet 6 xx

  3. Ah Looby Lou is lovely - well worth a little Repair Shop job on her, I think. Yes I certainly remember doing exactly the same - sitting down on the sofa - all ready to enjoy "Watch with Mother." I liked the Wooden Tops and the Flowerpot Men best! xx Jo

  4. Dear old Looby! Your mum did a great job capturing her character. It’s going to be tricky trying to mend the holes without puckering the stitches around, maybe try putting a tiny bit of stabiliser through the hole first, it would provide some support perhaps. Hope you can do something, on the other hand, the holes are honourable signs of being loved and played with!

  7. Afternoon Diana. Yes - I remember Andy Pandy - was on a Tuesday wasn't it? Picture Book on Monday, Bill and Ben on Wednesday, The Woodentops on Friday - but can't think of the name of the Thursday programme - it was a farm, or was that the Woodentops?? Oh dear!!! I reckon I must be REALLY old, cos I think I watched it with my children. Aargh!!
I hope you manage to repair Looby Loo.
Well done on the clearance of the eaves!
    Take care. God bless.

  14. Oh I love your Looby Loo. I'm of the same era and I had one knitted by my mum too, it probably got burnt in the house fire many years ago. She made my son a grey one like those sad clowns but I redid it into Harry Potter. Guessing that's in our loft. Hope the moths haven't found it and really hope you find a way of mending yours, but I'm sure you will. Hugs BJ#15

  17. Oh Looby Lou! what a treasure, I am glad you found her. Try not to think of it as restoring…if she’d been damaged when you were a kid, your mum would have just repaired her, huh!
