Deconstructed Collages

A couple of collages this week, still following the challenges in the Collage Workbook by Randel Plowman.  Well one collage actually.  The top one was started in December - I got stuck and left it. This week I decided to stencil the word Paris over it.  Instantly regretted it.  I made a pig's ear of the stencilling - a rookie error, the stencil wasn't taped down securely.  But also it was accidentally upside down (I really should have known better!).  So as the requirement was to deconstruct a collage and peel layers away I deconstructed it and re-made it using bits of the first one.   What a palaver for something I'm not overly keen on anyway - they say it's the journey don't they!

I know I keep banging on about my recent big clear out - last week was a Logarithms book I was thrilled to find and this week it's floppy disks - remember those!  We found a box of about 400 in the loft and went through them destroying any that had personal info on - it left me with a lovely little pile of springs and some odd metal pieces.  I don't really know why I'm keeping them at all, but they were irresistible to me!

I'm linking up with Julia over at WOYWW this week.

  1. I dunno, some journeys are great but if something’s not appealing to me these days, I terminate the trip early!!! Just like reading a book you don’t like, I used to feel honour bound to finish but now I think that life is too short so move on to the next *grin*
Log books! OMG I used to love doing those in maths lessons (nerd, I know) and the disks made me smile, see a few of those in my time. Hope the bits and pieces are useful for something.
    Happy Birthday for yesterday btw!

  2. Did you only lightly glue your collage down? I can’t imagine deconstructing a collage and having anything useful afterwards! I think I would rather start off with two of everything and make too different collages, but I suppose that is not the exercise. I am collecting free images for collage and plan to take them with me when we go away in the caravan. Happy WOYWW. Angela #6

  3. You sound like me for saving things. I am slowly trying to train myself to get rid of things that have not been used in a while. When we had a new shower put in I saved the big fittings thinking I was going to do something with them (like a long pipe and the big shower head etc) for the garden. Never did!
Love the log pages and the little paper clips are adorable and just perfect for someone like me. Who makes that die please? Thank you so much.
I know what you mean about rushing with a stencil and making an error. I would have got a black pen and tried to fix it or even a fine paint brush. Such a shame as it was a lovely idea but you certainly did the deconstruction element proud with a double one. Looks lovely and I do like the tulip especially.
Hugs and Thanks, Neet 1 xx

  4. Hanging onto that collage was a great idea Diana - it looks great with the deconstructing and reconstructing. I look forward to seeing what you come up with for remains of the floppy disks. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #12

  5. I'm pleased you didn't give up on that collage project. It made me smile actually that you made a few mistakes as I thought it was just me that did things like that but maybe it turned out even better in the end. I love the book and want to thank you for introducing us to it. I should actually be in the loft right now but keep putting it off. When I moved lots of stuff into the new cabin I promised myself that I would clear the rest out but it still hasn't really happened properly. It must be done soon as my friend has offered me a cupboard to go up there so we'll see. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x10x

  7. Ha - I am glad it's not just me who makes mistakes - I sprayed glue on the RS of my latest card before attempting to stick it to my backing card!! Then I wondered why it wasn't sticking down. Ah well - lesson learnt. I love to recycle stuff so I am with you on the bits of metal/springs etc - I am sure you will find something lovely to make with them. The collage is fab. xx Jo

  9. Debbie at Tattered Rocks who I’m sure you know, does all sorts of wonderful things with teeny bits of junk, I’m pretty sure you’d be inspired by her! Amazing really, how little there was to a floppy disk, considering their importance! I love the collage, but then we all see different things don’t we. I’m very guilty of thinking that I’ll get away with not taping a stencil down, so I hope you don’t follow me…I really do need to learn that saving myself seconds is costing me!! It’s the tulip placed over that jumps out at me. Glad you found your book of Logarithms….Mr Dunnit still uses his at work, on an almost daily basis. He reckons it’s the best book he’s ever read!!

  10. Happy Easter, Diana! I'll have to look that book up! I really want to collage more. Do you follow Margarete Miller on youtube? I'm learning quite a bit from her by participating in her challenges.
LOL On the floppy discs. I have a box of them I've been meaning to take apart. Where do we find the time? So many things to play with. Creative Blessings! ~Kelly
