Here's my desk for this week's WOYWW - if you want to know more pop over to Julia's Stamping Ground and visit a huge number of other peoples work spaces - it's great fun!
I have just started this week's Summer of Colour challenge - to create art based on the colours pink and lemon for Strawberry Lemonade Punch ice cream. I have found a few bits and pieces for inspiration and my sketchbook page is in the middle of drying. On the left are some packets of decorative pins that I recently purchased and haven't found space for yet, and I haven't got round to putting away the hot plate and wax yet - how lazy!
I came across this lovely stamp while desperately searching for some glimmer of inspiration for this weeks Tag Tuesday theme Tales of the River Bank. As soon as I found it I knew it had to be used!
I carefully picked out the colours in the stamp and made some colour bars as a background, using embroidery silks wound around strips of card. I painted and splashed a tag to give a watery feel and attached the colour bars. I then attached the stamp onto the bars with Sticky Fixers and added a fishing fly that I hooked through the stamp.
Stunning! Genius use of fibers- adds such depth and texture!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Carolyn, genius on the whole fibre thing. You know you're going to be seeing that all over the blogosphere soon!
ReplyDeletethank you for the inspiration,
cheers, rachel #68
I love the background tag colours and how you have picked up the colours of the fish in both the background and the fibres. It is wonderful, the stamp itself is gorgeous. Thank you for visiting me and for your lovely comments. Anne x #57

ReplyDeleteI LOVE the effect of the threads wrapped around the pieces of card - what a great idea. And did you just happen to have a fishing fly hanging around? It couldn't be more perfect...

Exciting challenge for the Summer of Colour! And wow, I love that tag. So clever to use the thread for color bars to put behind the stamp. Very understated and elegant. Fabulous!
ReplyDeletePerfect! Really.... everything about it :)

Awesome tag, love the attention to detail with the fishing fly and the colors are just perfect! waving hi from the hot hills of North Carolina :)
ReplyDeleteOh Diana, I just love your work! Your subtle colours are just divine... I saw your tag on the Tag Tues. blog and thought how lovely it was. Your new art challenge sounds fun, too, with an interesting summery colour combo!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comments on my blog. At last I'm starting to feel better thank goodness, after a pretty awful week, and I'm starting to pick up the threads again, hence getting to grips with my massive backlog of blog comments! It was certainly worth it, depsite the payback - the craft show was such fun and I really enjoyed demonstrating all day, even though I didn't sell much. Could have been worse though.
I love using heat embossing as a resist. Although I've done it loads of times, I never cease to get a thrill a) from watching embossing powder melt (beats watching paint drying any day!!) or b) watching it appear as you ink over it! As someone at the craft show said, it's a bit like magic painting that we used to do as children. I had so many more techniques I wanted to do at the show but no time for everything!
Happy belated WOYWW,
