Decay and Repair Textile Project

Another week of embroidery and stitchery, working on my long-running Decay and Repair project!  I would love to claim that all the embroidery is done by me, but sadly I didn't do the background stitching - that was already on the lovely piece of vintage silk I used for the background - my embroidery is mingling with it.  I might use a yarn card with less thread on it next time - it was extremely difficult getting the needle through all that thickness!

I am linking up with WOYWW this week

  1. It doesn't matter that you've taken an embroidering short cut! Not when your stitches meld in (is that the right term? Not sure) so beautifully. Is this Decay and Repair project just a personal thing of yours or is it an online group? Either way, your items should be exhibited somewhere - they're so gorgeous :-)
And I wasn't fishing for compliments in my post today - it's just that I feel that doing 'Random' is a struggle for me...I tell you, Diana, I didn't realise that I'm so OCD until recently...not about housework, mind you ;-) Just about patterns and finishing projects off properly. That's one good thing about being in my 50's....I'm finally learning quite a lot about myself!!

    1. It's a personal project of mine Jan, I've been working on similar themes since the early 90's - I'm fascinated by the whole subject of feminism around needlework, women and stitching, and the changing role of textiles in our lives.

  6. Oh, wow, Diana!! This is gorgeous and I love the yarn card!! I can understand how difficult it would be to get a needle through but I think it's ingenious that you incorporated it into the embroidery and it's just a gorgeous yarn card! Fantastic piece of work!

  8. I would never have thought of embroidering on the actual yarn on the card. How lovely it looks. You are so clever, Diana. What are you going to do when you finish your 'Decay an Repair' project. Are you planning to put it on show somewhere?

  10. Beautiful piece Diana, imaginative use of the card. There are many old ones you can pick up and it's a great way to display them, love it. I am sure the Lutrador will behave in a similar way to the Tyvek. All synthetic fabrics will melt when heat is applied just at different rates, I have done more of this in some earlier posts. Hope you will show us the results. Happy crafting, Angela x 33

  15. I think the others have said it all really Diana...this is such a gorgeous piece and I Love the idea of adding the whole card, definitely worth the struggle with the thicknesses!

  16. How beautiful this is! I'm currently having to clear out my Mum's home as she sadly had to go to a nursing home. Yesterday I went through a sewing box which I think was my Grandmothers & I found some threads cards in there. Unfortunately they are not in very good condition but I still can't throw them away, lol! Never know when I might find a need for one.

  17. Wow!! I've never seen that done, embroidering onto the thread like that, I absolutely love it, and how you stitched the card onto the silk piece. And SUCH a beautiful silk piece it is - I would have had my typical struggle to let myself use something that beautiful!
