I'm currently working on a series of pages in my sketchbook based on the garden in winter. I love the garden at this time of year - despite looking so withered and dormant, there is so much going on above and below ground. My previous Winter Garden page can be seen here.
The colour palette was inspired by these photos I took recently, peering through glass on a cold and frosty morning.
I am linking up with Julia over at WOYWW - why not pop over and see what other people are up to!

Gorgeous page! It reminds me so much of my winter walks through the cemetery, glimpsing the angels dressed in snow. Love the textures. I would love to see a video of your process. Diane #37
ReplyDeleteDoesn't the glass look so pretty with the frost on them. Happy woyww Jill #15
ReplyDeleteI adore the embossed letters at the top of the work...goodness, I could happily live with a whole artwork filled with that. I loved fonts....I've always wanted to have a go at carving stone lettering. Artwork with letters on fills me with happiness :-)

Such a beautiful page, Diana. The close up on the right intrigues me. I wonder what you used to achieve that texture.
ReplyDeleteI love the outdoors in the winter. Just today when I was out and about I was thinking how lovely the barren trees looked with such intricate patterns in their branches. There are lovely things to see in nature in all seasons.
Another gorgeous page, Diana! This is so beautiful. It just captures the peacefulness and quiet of the garden in winter!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Brings The Secret Garden to mind...especially the snowy parts in the film and the song Winter Light from the soundtrack. I love it when a piece of work evokes such a strong association, especially if it's a musical one :) xx
ReplyDeleteLovely idea to make pages about the winter garden. It is so stark yet so beautiful with the muted colors. Here ih Arizona..well..the winter garden is mostly the same..still with the light green cactus and the dark green cactus and the century plant :P Happy WOYWW. Shel #55
ReplyDeleteDormant seeds in the rich dark earth, snow falling through the winter white air... twigs on the ground and frost on the statue... isn't if funny how we see things. I could look at this beautiful page for ages and never get sick of it. I really love it.
ReplyDeleteWow! Gorgeous page! Had to look at your other page. Love it! And your inspiration photos show such fab texture! Thanks for sharing! Happy WOYWW!

Another gorgeous page and love the photos too. Have a great week. Your soul mate, Angela x
ReplyDeleteDiana, I am absolutely loving your winter garden pages. The frosty photos you took are stunning too, and how well you have interpreted the delicate subtle colouring, and the lacy frostiness. Just exquisite... If only I had half your talent!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for a lovely comment on my blog. I am glad you like my embroidery - nothing subtle about my colours at the moment lol! I find I can't do anything like this in hospital waiting rooms - I am too unsettled, and I need to spread my stuff about, and if I'm called, I'm all in a fluster because of having to tidy it all away in a hurry! I am sorry to hear you had such a tedious time at the hospital today and hope it was all worth it in the end, and that you haven't got too much trouble.
I am finding the embroidery very relaxing and therapeutic as I go through this strange, unsettling limbo period. After the scan on Friday there will be more waiting till I get the next appointment when the results will be discussed - that's the one I'm most nervous about, but trying hard not to think that far ahead. Thank you for your kind thoughts and the hugs which are always appreciated!

Well, the lettering stand as out most to me (I'm a bit of a font fan!), but love the embossing paste as frost..how beautiful a piece.
ReplyDeletelove the depth and color of your page so beautiful thanks for sharing have a great day
ReplyDeleteI would never have come up with that color palette, but it's really lovely. Thank you for sharing your inspiration as well. It makes me want to keep my eye out for unusual inspirations and combinations.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful page ... I love how you have incorporated the twigs and captured the icicles. Stunning result.

Oh your page is gorgeous! The Roman/Latin lettering is stunning. The whole page is so beautiful. I love those little twigs with cotton around it. Well done you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting yesterday. I can thoroughly recommend Annie Sloan paints. (No, I haven't got shares in them.... wish I had). They are for sale in the UK. Just google for stockists. Buy any old little bit of furniture at a car boot sale just to try it. You'll be hooked in no time!
Have a great week,

Oh my goodness, so gorgeous and wonderfully wintery. Our winter garden this year looks pretty much like our summer garden! Do you have the statue raised up on something, or did you manage to make it look that 3 dimensional with shading? Either way it's so striking, and I"m fascinated by what you did with the little branches - the detail is amazing as always.
ReplyDeleteSo, so beautiful, the image looks almost 3D with it's 'cape'. The little twigs wrapped in twine and dusted with crystals are a gorgeous touch. Love everything about this page! Ruth x
ReplyDeleteLovely page..... the frost does look amazing doesn't it?

It's so gorgeous. I love the classical vibe, paired with the quiet, snowy background.
