I have been doing a little bit of hand embroidery over the holidays, working on my project of Decay and Repair. I found it very tricky sewing the hooks and eyes and just couldn't get them straight - I haven't sewn a hook and eye since I used to make clothes for my Sindy doll in the early 70's - perhaps child-size fingers helped back then!

Yes Diana. I remember sewing hooks and eyes from my younger days and they are so fiddly to get straight. Beautiful work! I love the red against the natural coloured background.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stitching and photos! Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa @ InkyDinkyDoodle #27
ReplyDeleteI forgot all about hooks and eyes! Wow that takes me back lol. The project looks lovely and agree the red on the neutral is very striking.
ReplyDeleteHooks and eyes, well I never - haven't seen those around for a few years. The same with those little metal press studs as well :-) My mum used to make a lot of my clothes when I was little, she used loads of those items.... I love the red threads against the neutral background, very clever.
ReplyDeleteI seem to have too many thoughts about projects and no direction at all. My desk is a heap of junk that needs sorting...I think I need to prioritise things!!

Oh love your little project. So striking. A good way to use up some stash and for me would be great in my fabric journals for the girls. Mother has several of the Old fun sewing notions. Have a Blessed New Year...#54
ReplyDeleteoooh...LOVE how this looks. Definitely worth the trouble of figuring out how to sew those again. Very cool! Thanks for stopping by earlier--yes, I didn't think I was the only one that needed to get back into my stash more. I need to check out this whole project you're doing. Happy Wednesday! ReplyDeleteHooks and eyes are tricky to sew. You can use a bit of tape to hold them in place while stitching, that helps a little.
ReplyDeleteHappy Woyww and Happy New Year,

Hi Diana, (putting my old teachers' hat on) I think you've made a good job with the hooks and eyes they just need a few stitches across the base of the hook which keeps the hook straight, flat and stops it moving about. Hope that helps a bit. Happy crafting, Angela x
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful tactile project. Love what you are doing.

Great project Diana and photos. My big fingers would struggle with those hooks and eyes too.

ReplyDeleteI really like that project! The colours go so well together and that red gives it the certain interest....

Ahh well done! I'd struggle not only with my fingers but even with my glasses I think I'd find that hard!

Lovely piece. Perfect color choices. Creative Blessings! Kelly #53
ReplyDeleteOh I love your little project! The old darn yarn cards. They are lovely as well as what you did with them. The red is particularly effective.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,

As always, I love the composition, color and detail. Eye candy once again. You find the best old thread cards, or whatever they're called.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love that, so simple and beautiful. Love the contrasting red, it really pops. And yes, sewing hooks and eyes can be so fiddly!
ReplyDeleteI love you project, Diana! I missed this somehow, but I am really happy I found it! I love the read thread and I don't like sewing hooks and eyes either!
