Focus On Life Week 30 and Waddesdon Manor

For the Focus On Life photography challenge over at Studio Sublime our prompt has been to 'catch the sun'!   This weeks photo was taken at Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, where we went for a wonderful day to meet up with friends and visit this wonderful French chateau style house.  I love the way the sun is streaming through the windows and glinting on the stairs.

A few favourite images - slightly less fussy and more neutral in colour than most of the decor!

From May through to October 27th Waddesdon are holding an exhibition of work by Joan Sallas based on the art of napkin folding.  Most of the exhibits were made from linen napkins, or larger pieces of table linen, and they were quite stunning.  These are little bonnets, all folded using traditional designs and techniques.

Chandeliers everywhere, and lots of gold and more gold!

The bottom right image is of the dining table with more folded linen on it, in the shape of a Griffin and a table fountain.

I am linking up with Mary over at Mosaic Monday this week.

  1. Wow, the folded napkins are amazing. It reminds of an art exhibit on origami that we went to see last weekend that was really mind-blowing.

Your picture of light on the stairwell is absolutely beautiful, I can't imagine a better image for that prompt.

  8. What a great shot of "Catching the Sun". That certainly is an oppulent house, trying to imagine the people who lived in it.

  11. I would love to live like that. At least for a little while...say a couple of months.. just to think of coming down that stairwell...how royal I would feel! Thanks for the great tour Diana, it was wonderful!

  12. The sunlight on the stairs - wonderful. Our dogs would be laying in those spots and I'd be tempted to join them. I love going into homes like this and seeing the exhibits, but no way would I want to take care of it. My husband always thought I'd got ga-ga over it, because somehow it was a dream of mine to live like that. I think he gets it now, because I'd have to close off my studio or it would just ruin the effect.

  14. My heavens - that is some serious folding talent.
I am a sucker for chandeliers. I went through the Uffizi in Florence and was more enthralled by the chandeliers than the artwork.
