Midnight Garden Sketchbook Pages

Some pages from my Midnight Garden sketchbook.
I photographed some of the pages with a large and beautiful, almost black butterfly from my collection of old dead ones!  It reminded me of moths at night. I especially like it against the vivid blue of the cyanotype backgrounds.

I am linking up with WOYWW - click on the link to see what other people have on their desks this week.

  1. Just when I think your cyanotypes can't get any beautifuller (that's a real word btw!) you enhance it even more with that amazing black moth. Talk about Queen of the Night! Photo no 3 is especially gorgeous in my eyes, it would make a fantastic print.
    Hope you are keeping well,
    Hugs, LLJ 4 xxx

  2. I've loved seeing this theme.....I had to go back and reread - to make sure you had said that the black moth was real! Wow! Gosh, it is really stunning. I've certainly never seen one like that. It looks glittery. I need to go out in the dark more with a bright light :)

  3. Well, shows what different wavelengths we are on creatively...I LOVE these but it sure wouldn't have occurred to me to use the black moth. Maybe because I don't have a collection, but more likely because even if I had a collection, mmy mind just doesn't link beautiful things like yours does!

  4. o so beautiful!

  6. Oh my Oh my, what an amazing page.... it is so FANTASTIC !!!

    Kind regards

  7. Beautiful images as always. I particularly love the fourth one on the left which looks like it is on a black background. I am so pleased that you are featuring your butterfly and moth collection in your work again. They are exquisite to look at as is your artwork.

  8. Amazingly imaginative work, Diana, well done indeed!!! You've caught the light and hues of colour variation so well. Love the blue black artwork too!!! :)

  9. The black butterfly is like the black swan! So gorgeous against the pretty layers of your artwork. Love it all. Sandy Leigh #38

  10. Another "ooooh wow" project, Diana... I really don't know how you do it! The wow factor on this blog is amazing... I just love this one! I agree with Sandy that the black butterfly is like a swan! The contrast is fabulous. I really must find out more about the cyanotype printing which I know absolutely nothing about - but if you can get results like that, I do want to know!! The skeleton leaf is absolutely amazing.

Thank you for your lovely comment and your continuing good wishes for my chemo. This past 3 weeks has flown by, probably because I've been so busy getting ready for the Big Reveal of my mystery projects!! Not long to go now, I promise you! I am so glad you like my wings - they were great fun to make and to paint. I use a lot of gilding wax and love that stuff. I'm a bit of an addict. (Perhaps it's the smell? Nooo... I don't think so lol!)

I know all about kicks up the proverbial. I'm not always the most disciplined of people and need motivating sometimes!

    Happy WOYWW,

  11. Wow. I just love these, and that amazing black butterfly against them, you have such a great eye. Isn't it amazing how butterflies can still look alive after so many years? Really love how it brings out the black elements in these pieces, and contrasts so gorgeously with the blue.

  12. This just gets better and better! that butterfly is gorgeous. Wishing you a good woyww and happy crafting, Angela x 24

  13. Wow, what a wonderful pages! The blue is so rich... I love it! Happy woyww and a warm hug (high temperatures right now overhere) from Holland, Marit #36

  16. Love all the contrasts Diana! Stunning as always! X

  17. Oh that is sooo beautiful! I love that black butterfly, especially because it is a real one (albeit dead one). Does it have spickles on its wings orr is that some of your glitter?
Thanks for visiting me earlier this week. Yes, I learnt soon after posting that they were goats and not sheep! Well, I am a city girl at heart and never too old to learn.
Sorry I'm so late in commenting, but we have been away for a few days.
    Have a good week,

  18. Wow - that butterfly is amazingly beautiful (and quite well-preserved!) Love how the light captures different colors of the wings, and how this beautiful insect looks against your incredible work. Fabulous! xx Lynn

  19. Diana, thank you for your very kind words on my blog! I am so glad you like what I've done for Shaz. More to come! As for thinking of others, it does serve to take mind off my own problems lol! I am having such fun with these projects. Back to my angels for a bit now.
