You'd think, wouldn't you, that having shielded since March and been in one long lock down that I'd be sitting here in a beautifully organised and freshly decorated home, with a large pile of hand made cards written and ready to post and all the Christmas presents wrapped? Well you couldn't be more wrong - I'm making and posting about 4 cards a day and I'm still waiting for presents to arrive from on line shopping so I can wrap them and post them out to people. I haven't even started on tags yet and the house is a tip - although that doesn't really matter as we won't be having any visitors!
Here's a shot of my desk that you won't normally see - the white tablecloth has gone and it's covered in clutter! I've had some orders for bobbins which need to be painted, varnished and spangled (beaded), hence a tin of varnish, 2 boxes of beads and a cup of ready-made spangles, plus painting and card making equipment. What a mess - I find it stressful working in such a small space but for once I really can't keep putting stuff away between tasks- those bead boxes are far too heavy for a start!
I smiled at your opening remarks - describes me to a "T" - I have marvelled at those folks who have used isolation to do redecorating and all the jobs around the home that I would love to be doing/have done but haven't. Just glad nobody is coming around and it is just the two of us. I will tidy up though for THE day!
ReplyDeleteI think I ordered my last present around midnight on Tuesday and it will be delivered direct to the recipient because of Tier 3 restrictions. Phew! But no rest yet as I signed up for a five day workshop - am I mad or what!
Hugs, Neet 16
ps wish I had got to talk with you, even just a few words, at the Zoom.
I think your first paragraph hit home with us all!! The weight to be lost, languages to be learnt, projects to do....very little has happened, lol! And it’s nine days til the big day, how did that happen? I swear it snuck up on us this year, no question. Hope you get everything done and sorted and you enjoy a peaceful Christmas!

Hi Diana. Goodness, I confess I am sitting here chuckling... sorry! I, too, would love a beautifully decorated and organised home... but there we go - it isn't. I may have been sorting in the hunt for my poem - but that just means more stuff gets hauled out... and not all put away yet! Oh well, never mind - there's always next year.
ReplyDeleteTake care. God bless.

Mmmm yes, I have a couple of achievements I'm quite pleased with due to lockdown but cleaning, tidying, de-cluttering or decorating the house don't seem to have been high on my priority list either. Or losing weight or exercising. As I've said before it appears my lack of achievement has very little to do with time... Hope you manage to get your bobbins done despite the clutter! Have a lovely week, stay safe, stay well, Cindy #26
ReplyDeleteWell I think I am slowly getting sorted - wrapped a few pressies today. I am afraid it's going to be a weird Christmas this year and I almost can't be bothered to do more than the minimum. I hope you mange to get done all that you need to do. I bet your little spangled bobbins are a delight. Have a peaceful and relaxing Christmas. xx Jo
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, I think we are all the same this year- very little done, and nobody is really in the Christmas mood!I do hope you get your bobbin orders completed in time, it just seems to be running away with us, doesn't it? Stay safe, have a lovely week, hugs, Shaz #6 X
ReplyDeleteA rare look at your desk, Diana and it would take a lot bigger mess to shock me LOL! When we're busy, we often think if I had more time I would do this, this and that, but when we do get the time nothing gets done! We're all like that, I'm pretty sure. In fact, I get more things done when I'm super busy because I need to be more disciplined, otherwise I just deflate. And believe me, I'm really good at deflating! I can easily spend all day basically doing nothing at all - well, I would be doing things but without accomplishing anything. Spending 4 cards a day is a huge accomplishment in my book! Happy #602! zsuzsa #27
ReplyDeleteHi! at least you know where your at in the process and your making progress! Find peace with what you accomplish and enjoy the season :) ~ Love, Karen #32
ReplyDeleteI have been busier than ever this year with lockdown being work and homeschooling all at once! I will be glad when this week is over and I can rest! Neat and tidy desk all poised for action. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#13)
ReplyDeleteI felt quite jealous of all those people staying at home during lockdown - having worked throughout (not complaining about having a job, you understand) but I am sure there are more people who didn't get loads of stuff done than did! I need to try and buy a few presents soon - very soon! luckily I don't have that many to get. Have a good week Helen #2
ReplyDeleteDiana, you are too funny!! I think we ALL are in that same predicament! I didn't order a whole lot online this year just for those reasons, and instead opted to make just about everything, save a few! That way I knew when they were getting in the mail! Although, I'm not saying I was super quick about that either! LOLOL Good luck with all the finishing touches and the Merriest of Christmas's to you! Blessings, Felicia, #31
ReplyDeleteOOh Diana, your desk may feel confining and cluttered to you, but for most of us it’s a rare glimpse of the master at work! I know what you mean about everything being untidy, it really cramps everything, but these things don’t last long, and you’ll move on and by next week, wonder why it felt so traumatic!!
ReplyDeleteDiana, I have been housebound since 2014 (due to health) I generally only leave my house to vote, for doctor's appointments, and before COVID to visit my daughter and grandson. I just knew I was going to accomplish so much with all this time...right!
ReplyDeleteChristmas is not one of my holidays so that is not a challenge for me but all of the Jewish Holidays seem to sneak up on me and I find myself in panic mode. The same with my crafting. The Hubster says the problem is that my existence is linear but my thinking is not! He may be on to something!
I hope your presents get in timely and that you are able to accomplish all that remains to be done!
BE LINEAR! D:)

I hear you completely Diana, for one i've been far too busy making sure those unable to get out have had everything they needed to keep fed and watered, ducking and diving throughout the pandemic is busy work.. i'm just glad to see you have been able to keep yourself busy. It doesn't bare thinking about for those poor people that have no hobbies. Stay safe & creative my friend.. Happy WoywW Hugs Tracey xx
ReplyDeleteP.S Glad you got my email x
Hi Diana, I like to tidy between projects but it rarely happens. I nearly always have several things going on at the same time and as I just start a new project as one finishes I am constantly in a mess though I have so far kept the new cabin quite tidy though that may change when I am using it more often. Hope all your stuff arrives soon as Christmas seems to be coming quickly now. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x12x
ReplyDeleteI do hope you can get everything sorted soon Diana and that the stress levels subside. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #3
ReplyDeleteI have veered between achieving near-miracles (getting me and my belongings moved to a new country during lockdown two!) and getting nowhere near enough done with my time! It's been a very strange rollercoaster of a year. My temporary craft set-up is nowhere near busy enough at the moment... I think I'm still in recovery from the move and trying to get things like ID cards and health insurance sorted, and Box Mountain can't be unpacked until my floors are laid (which is now probably not until the New Year) - so there's a strange paralysing kind of stasis going on... though I'm also recording my first audio books and of course getting sorted for Christmas, so actually there's a whirl of activity - yet it still feels like I'm not getting enough done. That's what 2020 has done to us, I think.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, never mind the mess, focus on the creativity - however small or slow it seems, it's still the important thing! Wishing you and yours a safe and merry festive season.
Alison xx
i COULD, ditto your first remarks, it made me smile. All this home time and I have messes everywhere. We had to have service man come for a sink problem and I told my husband don't have him come before noon. I flew around that area making it as neat as a pin..I was glad when he left and didn't have to go downstairs to shut the water off !! Embarrassing Usually it's only my crafty space that gets in such a disarray. Have a great weekend. All will fall into place before the big day.
ReplyDeleteOur garden was absolutely fabulous all through this summer because my hubby was restricted to the property during lockdown, Diana - but the house is a different matter - my studio in particular is a total tip and I'm finding it hard to navigate my way across the room these days. I think when we aren't having visitors, there's less incentive to tidy up. I am sure you will make a lovely job of the painted bobbins - the last lot made me wish I'd never given up lace making!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit. I totally agree with you - Covid is a gift to anyone needing an excuse for inefficiency these days. I'm sorry you are yet another one who has experienced problems getting in touch with the surgery. They couldn't give an explanation for why my emails were disappearing into the ether and they didn't seem prepared to try and find out the reason, which leaves me having to battle to get through on the phone if this happens again... She was remarkably unsympathetic when I told her I had given up after over 50 attempts to get through. It's simply not good enough in my opinion. And we are supposed to be so grateful to the NHS, which is supposed to be looking after US, not the other way round. I don't know about you but I did not indulge in all that ridiculous eeal-flipper clapping at the beginning. Virtue signalling isn't my forte.
Thank you for your sweet comments about the kitty crocheting! Such a fun project. I can't wait to get started on the paw prints. As for the Persian Tiles pattern, reading it through, it isn't that complicated - it's just basic stitches really, and just following the pattern shouldn't be a problem. I expect that after doing a few motifs, you could probably make them without following the pattern.
You are right about the kitties snuggling up together more, now that the weather has got so cold and damp! They were social distancing all through the summer when it was hot, but that was more because of the temperature than because they thought they'd get Covid!! In the spring they did spend a lot of time cuddled up in that wool box, though, giving us lessons in social closeness! They are so funny together.
Happy belated WOYWW,
Shoshi x #21
Oh you would think that! My home is so messy right now, because we are moving closer to work and to my mother-in-law! So imagine a partially decorated home, partially furnished because some furniture and decorations have already moved... Preparing cards at the last minute, gifts aren't still all bought, aff... today I panicked when I realized Christmas is next week already! Help :)))) You are not alone!
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, happy belated WOYWW. Well, I have looked at your desk photo for a couple of minutes, and I can't see the clutter. It looks very tidy and organised to me. I fully understand with not always being able to finish one project and put things away, before starting on the next project - hence why mine has sewing, crocheting and card making paraphernalia on it at the moment. Thank heavens for two desk spaces, and I can dedicate one to a home office at the moment, otherwise I too would find it stressful. I need space to spread out and work when I am crafting - I'm definitely an untidy/messy crafter when I am working on something. Hope you don't get too stressed ... have a lovely week, Heather xx #30
ReplyDeleteI'm getting less and less done. I started off the lock down quite well, getting the garden sorted out, doing loads of painting....not arty but the shed (hubbys man cave) and then, pulled down the old lean-to green house, hubby built me a potting shed in its place, which also needed painting and then getting all my crafty stuff down from the attice and squeezing it into this smaller room...but now? There's so much to do I don't know where to start! and Christmas is getting closer very fast! Dtill, your desk look like its ready to craaft on...where as mine? I can't see it! Have a great crafty weekend. Happy WOYWW!? Stay Safe,
ReplyDelete((Lyn)) #24
Hi Diana - I think we all had Great Expectations for all the stuff we would do in Lockdown, but most of us feel the same as you describe, weird isn't it? I retired in April as well, still haven't done half as much with my time as I thought I would. At least we'll never run out of things to do eh? Annie C #28
ReplyDeleteLove the clutter! During lockdowns I have done plenty but there are still things that I intended to do...
ReplyDeleteSorry I am so late commenting...
Happy 602nd WOYWW!
Stay Safe and Keep Well...
