Resist Stenciling Cards

Despite being gardening crazy at the moment I managed to get some crafty time in and I turned a couple of backgrounds into birthday cards.  It was a continuation of my 'playing' with the Distress Micro Glaze resist technique. I can't seem to resist resist at the moment!

The top card has some gold embossing paste thinly stenciled on top of the resist stenciling so it's slightly translucent.  It's a little easier to see in the close up shot further down the post. 

The one below used just two colours of spray, pink and a honey gold but when sprayed on top of each other they made a very pleasing deeper burgundy.

Playing with Texture Paste

I've had a busy couple of weeks where I just haven't had the chance to do much arty crafty stuff, but I needed a couple of cards for this month, so that made me sit down and do something!
While having a clear out recently I discovered a few pots of texture paste that I have never used so I thought this would be a good opportunity to try them out - luckily they hadn't dried out.

Coral Dreams - A Boat Full of Treasures for Paper Artsy

I was so thrilled to be asked recently to do a blog post for Paper Artsy, on the theme of stencils.  

The finished piece was a little boat surrounded by coral and filled with seashells and other special treasures!  Step by step instructions and information on the techniques I used are on their blog here.

 

The Winter Garden

I'm currently working on a series of pages in my sketchbook based on the garden in winter.  I love the garden at this time of year - despite looking so withered and dormant, there is so much going on above and below ground.  My previous Winter Garden page can be seen here.

The colour palette was inspired by these photos I took recently, peering through glass on a cold and frosty morning.

My Winter Garden and the Paper Artsy Challenge

For the second challenge over at Paper Artsy the subject we've been given is shiny things.  I am currently working on a series of pages in my sketchbook based on my winter garden, and this page seemed very appropriate for the challenge - I have used white embossing paste with glitter, translucent embossing paste, copper wire, Treasure Gold and iridescent beads.  I'm afraid my camera simply refused to acknowledge that there was any shiny, glittery, sparkly stuff to photograph - even on the closeups it's hard to see the glitter.  However the translucent embossing paste shows up quite well on the lower half of the page, with a shiny glass-like quality, so all is not lost!
