This weeks photographic prompt for Focus on Life over at the Studio Sublime was 'Typography'. I LOVE books - I have books pretty much in every room of the house, from brand-new to very, very old! I quite often buy books simply because I am drawn to the title - which can lead to disappointment or sometimes an amazingly good read if lucky! Barbara Kingsolver's Poisonwood Bible has to be one of my all time favourite books - the cover is delicately plain yet appealing, with gold embossing and a simple, intriguing title. I am also drawn to the beautiful titles of Gail Tsukiyama's books - a wonderful author, she is definitely another favourite - who could resist titles such as the Language of Threads and Dreaming Water!
I am sure I will never be a Kindle kind of girl - I often just hold my books, and rub my hands over the cover and drink in the beauty and texture of the book cover - it is a huge part of the enjoyment of reading a good book!
Those are beautiful books and along with very inviting titles, I might have to go check some of them out!
ReplyDeleteLove the art of book design. But I love my new kindle for readability!
ReplyDeleteWill have to check out those books... I'm surrounded by them and it never occured to me to take pictures of them for this weeks prompt!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! There is nothing better than a real book - especially if it has a beautiful cover :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week :)
Admire you love of books, Great post and response to this weeks prompt.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images, I love books too.
ReplyDeleteDiana your books are lovely. I chose a book too.
ReplyDeletePoisonwood Bible is up there on my favorites list. I have not read any of Gail Tsukiyama, but now will be on the lookout for her books. I also have books everywhere in my house and cannot resist an interesting title when I am out thrift shopping. But I also like my Kindle, which I resisted for a very long time. They both have a place in my life.
ReplyDeletegorgeous photography, and beautiful books. I'm with you ... Kindle just isn't the same. I want the feel of the pages, the smell of the book. the older the better!
ReplyDeleteCould not agree more and such beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteI love how you styled your photographs! And your books are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of those book! Thanks for the reading ideas!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful books - and your pictures are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteDiana, your blog and work are beautiful! love your color palette with the threads and books. So soft and gentle. I look forward to following your blog.
ReplyDeleteIt's the cover that calls but since I've started reviewing books for my blog I've found some amazing books with the most awful covers. Which is a shame because I'm sure those covers turn people away.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful. I'm with you, I love the feel of a book in my hand. I never want to give that up and I want our children to know that feeling.

I so agree I gave my Nook to one of the kids! It's such a tactile/visual experience that could never be copied by a flat screen! So many times those lovely colors pull you into look at the book! Those Gail Tsukiyama books remind me of Amy Tan and Lisa See!Esp Lisa See she has gorgeous covers!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photographs! I've added the books to my search for book list too :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is a real book lover but she has also recently become a Kindle lover too... and keeps trying to tempt me over to the dark side!!! Kindles just don't smell like a book, feel like a book or appeal like a book... but I can see that they have their use... resisting a little bit longer!!!!

Gorgeous photos!!! These look like wonderful books to read. While I hardly have the time to read, I know I will always prefer a book to an e-reader. There's just something about holding a book and turning the pages. And the smell of a library or book store is something that I always enjoy.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs Diana and the books look really appealing. We will all be checking them out.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about feeling the actual book, they hold such a lot of promise of what is to come inside them. How could a kindle possibly compete.
Beautiful photos. What's the font you use for your watermark? That one is very cool!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you...having a 'real' book in my hands could never be replaced with an e-Reader.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures - your passion for books definitely shines through. Now I'm going to have to go find those books!
ReplyDeleteThese are so lovely! Glad to know I'm not the only one who's into holding and 'loving' on my books! I'm afraid I'm not much for 'Kindle' or fake-books (as I call them) either! Although I totally understand their convenience at times.
ReplyDeleteI actually AM a Kindle girl...I travel a fair bit and love never running out of reading material...but I also love the tactility of books; for some reason, especially, those larger format paperbacks. Your montages are absolutely beautiful!! I'll have to try Gail Tsukiyama.
